Haplogroup A ancestor---we are a match

Josie,

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that some of us are related since we are studying our
ancestors that came from the same area. Today I checked my mtDNA results which I
haven't done for awhile and you are an exact match at a low resolution level to my
paternal grandmother, Maria Felguerez (via Cecilia Isordia). I did not realize who you
were.

Did you do the HVR1 and HVR2 mtDNA tests? If you did not do the HVR2 and you have
extra money lying around, I would be interested to see if we are related at an even closer
(high resolution) level.

Welcome to the tribe. Now I have to look up all the material you have in the Ranchos
database. My grandmother's data is below.

Even though I said that we shouldn't be surprised, I am. Amazing.

Abrazos,

Ed

Arturo......it seems that I match four of your six

Linda.....I also match four of yours.  Victor.....I don't have your numbers

Records Preservation.

Hi Elvira:

I'm impressed about of how you was described your "odyssey" to contribute for preservation the church records of San Juan de Guadalupe, Durango (many years). Your experience surely help us to understand that, not all people know the importance of this, but you report us a very relevant tips to solve the problem that you has had, and us could have.

1) Your persistence was successful.
2) You say a guy that help you (and could help others, I think): Benicio Sanchez, that you say is the President of the Sociedad Genealogica del Norte de Mexico. Is not a good idea that you proved us the contact with him?
3) When a archive is microfilmed, the access to it is too much more easy (you expend your time now to go another places that no microfilm is available, but for San Juan de Guadalupe, Dgo., you only go to the FHC to see their records).
Thanks for share your
marvelous experience. There are a large information in the www, regards "Preservation of Records" the following

a possible date of later on this month, for when it is to be

come up. It can take about 2 or 3 times.

has given us some breathing room for the rest in Ranchos1 to "expand"

Mexican Border

Ed:

I agree with you 100 percent. My only point was that the non-native cultural influence in
the American Southwest in the 200 years preceding the American annexation was much
more Mexican than Spanish. Political realities do not always conform to cultural realities.
I suposse an analogy would be the Indian troops that the British used to conquer Hong
Kong. These people, who are among the oldest settlers of the island, were not British and
their identity in the colony was not as British, and in fact the British abandoned them when
they abandoned Hong Kong. Mexicans played a very similar role in the American
Southwest, even while it was under Spanish rule... the name for New Mexico was not
arbitrary... it was in fact a colony of Mexicans on the frontier, under Spanish rule, as were
all Mexicans at the time.

Likewise, the Mexican identity is not limited to the geographical boundaries of Mexico. I
think it is wonderful that people who identify themselves proudly as

Mexican Border

Arturo,

My comments related to the idea of ownership. Spain owned the area what we call the
Southwest for centuries. Mexico "owned" the Southwest for no more that 30 years. Neither
country tried to develop the area in any major way. Spain tried somewhat in 1750 when
they came up with the idea of the missions, converting the natives to christianity and
further exploring the lands. However, my readings suggest that the independent county of
Mexico from 1820-1848 was in so much internal strife after Independence that the
Southwest was not addressed in any meaningful way.

I fully understand that the people of Nueva España or Mexico had an influence on the
Southwest, as they do today. I simply object to the idea held by some that the Southwest,
particularly California, belonged to Mexico for as long as anyone can remember. Before
the Spaniards, various tribes of Native American Indians lived in the Southwest, perhaps as
long as 10,000 years. Which tribes I do not know. Same

Colotlan 1785 Census

Arturo, Victor and Joseph,

On Monday and intoTuesday I will begin to transcribe the text only portion of the 1785 Colotlan document but before I get going I want to clarify what I will be doing. I will be transcribing from Spanish to Spanish not from Spanish to English at least this is what I believe is required unless I hear otherwise. I think that after transcribing from Spanish that may not be very legible to us now into more legible and comprehensible Spanish, we can then proceed to do a Spanish to English translation in the future. That would have to be done by someone better qualified than myself.

Victor and Arturo, thanks for your patience with me and with your assistance. I am very busy this weekend with my family and church and will be free to go like gangbusters on Monday.

Colotlan 1785 Census

Alicia:

I will make you a deal and since I have the section following yours,
I will proceed backwards and start transcribing your names in Excel
if you transcribe the text from your section and mine. It looks like
your names start on 115 recto. My section's names stop at 124
verso. So why don't you transcribe 111 recto through 114 verso and
then start up again on 124 verso and go through 130 verso. That way
you will have all text which you can do in Microsoft Word.

Alicia,

A section of what I'm transcribing contains also just text and I plan
to create a separate text file for that. Excel is not very well
suited for that and besides if we add all the text into one of the
columns then we won't be able to manipulate the data as data.

About the Recto and Verso it simply refers to the front and back of
each sheet. We have to use those numbers instead of the numbers that
are inscribed in the document itself because with the Recto-Verso
numbers we can go back and locate any specific piece of information
that we need to verify.

Arturo,

I have created an account in the Archivos Españoles Red and opened up the Colotlan 1785 document but I need to clarify what or where exactly I begin. I opened up to the first entry for 111 where you requested that I begin. On the left hand side it has a sequential numerical column which states either "recto''  or ''verso''. Is this of any particular significance to you or to the document. Does recto mean it should be in Excel format and verso mean Word format or am I reading too much into this.

I opened up to Recto 111 but on the actual document on the upper right hand side it shows number ''110'' rather than 111 and it appears to be mostly text and not names or data. Is this where I should proceed? and should I proceed to transcribe in a Word format? I would actually prefer to do the text only as I am proficient in Word but not as experienced in Excel.
