thanks Arturo: Huejucar!!!

Time will tell if we are cousins. I need to hunt for a family that had
two children: One an Antonia Lopez and another a Nicolas Lopez. I don't
know when Nicolas was born but his sister, Antonia was born
approximately in 1892. Also Antonia had a cousin named Crescencio Lopez
who was born in Huejucar sometime around 1915-1925. When the films
arrive I'll need to dig in and have a good look for my Grandmother and
possibly a connection to your Lopez family.

thanks Arturo for the file. thanks for sending me that file. thanks,

Jalpa, Zacatecas

Hello everyone,

This is a general distress call to everybody.  Please I need some help.

A friend of mine named Jose Luis Gomez Medina, who has some of the same names as I do, has asked me to do his genealogy for him.  It turns out his family is from Jalpa, Zacatecas, and I was having absolutely no success locating any of his people in the IGI.  Then I decided to check out and see what films are available for Jalpa, Zacatecas.

Boy was I surprised, nay shocked, to discover that there are hardly any.  They are sporadic and don't go very far back. In the church records there are no baptisms before 1909, and marriages only from 1827-1838 and 1913-1920.  That's it!  Defunciones go from 1814 to 1917.  But it seems that it's going to be very difficult.

Does anybody out there know why the Jalpa, Zacatecas archive is in such bad shape?  What happened?  Can anybody help me unlock the mysteries of this ancestry?  More importantly for him, he wants to connect his Gomez surname to his

I find this really interesting since my direct ancestor Francisco
Mendez was also from Zamora Michoacan, He says in the marriage
record (1795 in Tamazula) that he's been gone from Zamora for 6
years, he married a Sanches de la Mejorada that say they are from

Even though I am not an Alvarez del Castillo, it is a surname that
marries into my family and is present in Arandas and Ayo el Chico. I
and a few others have traced the surname to Zamora, Michoacan. That
was their original "nest." The Gutierrez de Robles, Morfin, and Cueva
surnames were also from there. My cousin Tony Campos was also from
there. He has been researching the Zamora, Jacona, Tlazazalca, and
Tangancicuaro, Michoacan, area for the past 35 years.

Villa de Leon Mexico

Thank you for your reply, my real curiosity was about the Sanches de
la Mejorada line that was the first wife of my Ancestor Jose
Francisco Mendez who married her in 1795 in Zapotlan El Grand/Ciudad
Gusman. In that town all the people I asked about including Espanol
Gonzales and Leal's are living and marrying into the same lines as
my direct ancestor did. They say they are from Leon and also many
people coming directly from Spain in this time period.. I didn't
mean to do their genealogy but you know how it is.. we start with
one family and end up doing the city or rancho! These same people
also live in Tuxpan, Atoyac, and Tamazula de Gordiano, they seem to
come around Lake Chapala. I got to go there a couple of years ago
and the area is still in sugar cane and making tequila is a
maintstay. If you'd like any of the records let me know, always glad
to share my findings..

Villa de Leon Mexico

Sorry that this reply is so so late, but I hardly check my aol mail box
anymore. I was rather interested to see that you discovered records
from Zapotlan el Grande that connected your Loza y Linares lineage to
the Villa de Leon. Well that is without a doubt Leon, Guanajuato. The
Loza y Linares family and Lopez de Lara are both definitely from there.
DEFINITELY.

My close friend, cousin, genealogist, and writer, don Mariano Gonzalez
Leal, has researched the Loza y Linares lineages since they migrated to
Mexico from Spain. He himself is a Loza y Linares and currently lives
in Leon, Guanajuato. He has access to all kinds of records from Leon's
historical archives, both public and private. Some of the Loza y
Linares and Lopez de Lara's descendants eventually moved to
Jalostotitlan, Lagos de Moreno, Ayo el Chico, Arandas, San Miguel el
Alto, and San Juan de los Lagos.

It seems that they also migrated to Zapotlan el Grande. Where is that
anyway?

Huejucar!!! Part two

Just a word on DNA tests for females...of course they can be done.
Females have DNA just like males. But remember from your chapter on
Genetics in your Biology class, females have XX chromosomes and males
have XY chromosomes. Male haploid reproductive cells (sperm cells) are
either X or Y chromosome cells. Female haploid (or ova) are ALL
X-chromosome cells. When an X sperm cell fertilizes a X ovum, a baby
girl is conceived. When a Y sperm cell fertilizes an X ovum, a baby
boy is conceived. That is why males determine the sex of the newborn
child.

As Joseph, and anyone else who has investigated their genetic
genealogy, can attest to, paternal origin can only be checked via the
Y-DNA only. Consequently, only males can have their Y-DNA traced,
because only males have the Y-chromosome (which is where the Y-DNA is
located). Unfortunately, females are XX and have no Y-DNA, so females
have to ask a close male relative (father, brother, or paternal-cousin)
if they want

Huejucar!!!

Hi Joseph,

I'm so happy for you. This is truly a wonderful break. You indeed
have the right forensic attitude for genealogy. Establish what you
know and what you don't know, and formulate parameters for your future
research. I wish you the best of luck.

My mother is a Lopez, whose ancestry was from San Miguel el Alto and
San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco. It is very very unlikely that our two
Lopezes were related, as the surname is sooooo common, but wouldn't it
be cool if they were?

Tell us all when you make some more progress.

Relationships in Spanish

Joseph,

Among the people I know, it is common to hear about "Abuelos",
"Bisabuelos" and "Tatarabuelos". Beyond that, I've never heard those
greek prefixes like tetra, penta, hexa, etc. attached to the word
"abuelo" but rather the ordinal numbers cuarto, quinto, sexto, etc. or
its numerical equivalent 4to., 5to., 6to., etc.

However, there's some confusion on the numbering system depending on
if you're counting the "abuelos" or the "bisabuelos". For example, my
genealogy software (In English) uses the following nomenclature, which
I have paired with its Spanish equivalent:

Grandparent = Abuelo
Great Grandparent = Bisabuelo or 2do. Abuelo
2nd. Great Grandparent = Tatarabuelo or 3er. Abuelo or 2do. Bisabuelo
3rd. Great Grandparent = 4to. Abuelo or 3er. Bisabuelo
And so on.

The convention in Spanish is to count the "abuelos", but if you're
doing a translation of, let's say, 3rd. Great Grandparent you have to
be careful and translate it either as 3er. Bisabuelo or 4to. Abuelo.

 I hope

being currently used in Mexico? I mean I talked with Luz Montejano and
she seemed to indicate that this was the old style and not in current
use. Then again maybe I didn't quite understand correctly.

Does anyone know if the Huejucar films in the later years (say in the

DNA: Huejucar!!! Part two

yes but that would be the Mt-DNA which would trace you through your
mom, grandmother, great grandmother etc. so that wouldn't help in us
comparing our Muro line. We'd need your father or brother or uncle or
nephew from one of your brothers. Basically any male child who wears
the Muro name as his true surname.
