Going to Salt Lake City

This may seem like a silly question to some, but for my birthday in March, I plan on gifting myself a trip to Salt Lake City to do some genealogical research. My question to those who are experienced at this is, do you need to request and reserve your film there ahead of time? or can you just arrive and make the request at the time of arrival?

Thanks for your help and if there's anything else I should know before I go, it would be great to glean that from this group.

Muchas Gracias, Alicia..................

Travel to Mexico

Josefina,

I might be interested in something like that, but it could be a problem if we are interested in visiting different areas.

I know this website is for Cuba but there are a lot of resources
available through this site namely people and groups that have studied
this topic in depth and might be a good source to lead you to the
information you seek. If you find more info please post it to ranchos.

1) Being very careful to only use the latest version of Microsoft
Internet Explorer go to:

Fill out the form making sure to scroll down to the place where you pick your login and password.

3) click "Acceptar"

and a pop up window will open with your "Tarjeta National de Investigador" number. Write this number down.

SHIPS AND PASSENGER LISTS for Mexico

Here I go again with the questions but no one that I have spoken to
has been able to help thus far. I understand that there were at
least two ports of entry in Mexico back in the early 1800's, one was
in Vera Cruz and the other was Tampico. Quien Sabe? Certainly there
must have been a trail of paper work MANIFESTS PASSENGER LISTS
BIRTHS AND DEATHS for the ships. BUT WHERE ARE THEY? I understand
that there is a site in Spain where passengers would
register "Indice de las Indias" How does one go about getting
information at this site, where do I begin? or is there a place in
Mexico????

Books from Berkeley: Haciendas/AguascalientesYLosAltos/Governors/Maps/Militar/SanMiguelElAlto/

Well I guess everyone is noticing that I've discoved the UC Berkeley
library's online catalog. UC Berkeley has a fabulous collect of
materials for all three of our target area states and Mexico in general.
I'd suggest you all spend sometime cruising around their catalog.

Again if any of you feel that your inbox is starting to get cluttered
then either go to Yahoo and change your subsciption from individual
emails to the Digest version or let me know and I'll do it for you.

I wished I lived close enough to go to the Bancroft Library often. I
would go there and to SLC as often as I could.

A Call For Batch Numbers/Digest/Cal Berkeley

Well I don't want to burden any one person but how about your particular
areas of research. . .aren't you doing Mazapil and Sombrerete?

I was hoping that if just a few of you all would do maybe just one
slowly that "File" in Ranchos2 would start to fill in.

thanks,

Jonathan

ps: and thanks for the kind offer to the group.

Title: Re: [ranchos] Coyote

Alice,

I discussed genes with another genealogy group (Pureto Rican) earlier today. I am simply copying it and forwarding it to you and the group. It is self-explanatory. Phenotype (what it looks like) and genotype (what the genes are) are two different things.

Respectfully,

Ed Serros

Ron and Ivonne,

As advertised, the mtDNA test is DNA check on your mother’s mother’s mother’s....mother’s ancestry. Recently, even the most “European” (read white) of South American countries, Argentina, has shown that approximately 90% of mtDNA is Indian. The paternal, Y-DNA, is largely European. The inference is clear. The male Europeans came and the Native American Indian females bore. Yes, there are a lot of reasons for this: conquest, infectious disease, food, social issue, etc.

Your mtDNA may be Indian (four major types in all the Americas) and may not necessarily answer the questions you may have. I believe that there are on-going studies in Puerto Rico

I do believe that is true, but I've noticed that in certain branches of
my family where the people are tall and fair, the genealogy does indeed
identify the ancestors as mostly Spanish.  My maternal grandfather was
short, and sure enough he traced back to an Indian.  I'm not sure I'd
totally disregard the classifications.  Have others noticed similar
patterns?

A Call For Batch Numbers/Digest/Cal Berkeley

If anyone would care to submit or send me the batch numbers for your
particular research area I think it would help fill out those that are
currently in the file area of Ranchos2.

Any volunteers? If just one or two of you would come forward that would
be better than none.

thanks,

joseph

ps: If anyone is getting overwhelmed by the recent increase in messages
from the group I just wanted to say that putting your subscription into
the Digest mode is an option. That way instead of getting each
individual email in real time you would get one large email with all of
that days discussion included. The latter makes it easier to keep things
together, but you'll be about a day behind in the conversation. Just an
option

pps: Does anyone here ever get to UC Berkeley for their research? If so
can you contact me off list. . .makas@... thanks

Thanks Rosalinda and Victor for this thread. . .Rosalinda do you happen
to have any more info on Juana Rufina Rodriguez Castro? I'm interested
in whether or not there might be a sister of hers by the name of Maria
del Carmen Rodriguez . . .another child of Francisco Rodriguez and
Micahela Castro? I think  Maria del Carmen from Tlaltenango is my
GGGGGG grandmother but I'm not 100% sure, well lets say I'm 95% sure.

I'm pretty sure [that 5% doubt] that Vicente Diaz married Carmen
Rodriguez and had Jose Francisco Diaz who married Concepcion Castaneda
who had Vicente Diaz who married Hipolita Caciana Rivas who had twin
boys named Jose Thadeo Diaz in 1793 The Tadeo's married and one of the
twins produced the line my paternal grandfather came through and the
other Tadeo produced the line that my paternal grandmother came through
[thus my grandparents were 3rd cousins].

thanks,

joseph

Victor--

Yes, the records are at the familysearch website.  I looked up many of the records so I could trace back to Juan Martin.  Juan married two times, and his second marriage took place in Colotlan, and that is the record that notes his birthplace as Reinos de Castilla.  The record did not include his parents' names, since he was a widower, and the priest simply included Juan's first wife's name, Lorensa Madera.  When I was working on the Suares del Real family, I kept track of those people with the same last name, hoping to connect them to my branch.  I haven't looked at my notes (I have a huge pile) in some time, but I'm sure I tried to connect Pedro to the Pedro I noted, but more than likely I moved on without searching thoroughly.  When (?) I have a chance, I'll try to go to the FHC to have a look at some films.  I believe I have a list of the indefinite films I have at the FHC in the rancho group's files or it's in ranchos2.  I'll check later to see if I have the necessary

Rosalinda,

Thank you so much for your information about Juan Martin Suares del
Real.

The data I have about Pedro José Suares del Real (possible gradson of
Juan Martin)is derived only from the marriage record of José Diego
Cayetano (my 3rd great grandfather).

This is so interesting! Are those records on your email contained in
the FamilySearch databases?

I'm going to take a real close look at each record and then I'll get
back to you.

Thanks again!
