Pero al buscar a Francisco Xavier encuentro varios homónimos, variando sólo el segundo apellido.

I read an old post about Margarita Ramirez that marries Francisco Tiscareno in Februry 25 1690 in Aguascalientes . It said she was also known as Margarita de Sosa and That her mother was also margarita de sosa. But then someone on the post said they didn't know margarita Sosa and made it seem like it wasn't true. Does anyone know this person. Here she is:

I had been searching for Jacinto Paisano LKDX-GCH on familysearch.org​ (4th greatgrandfather) married to Maria Carmen Amaya.

I came across an IM for Joseph Jacintho Payzano married to Maria del Carmel Nieto. They had the time period correct, names basically the same, and place of birth in San Luis Potosi.

Maria del Carmel Nieto parents are Nicolas Gregorio Nieto and Maria Rosalia Amaya Roxas.
Does anyone have any info on them to confirm or disprove my theory that they are the same?

One other note, the whole family has had their names corrupted (escovedo changed to Escobar) or reversed (ventura paisano became ventura escareno and her husband Rafael Escareno became Rafael Paisano), and children of michaela Rodriguez and Tiscareno have children passed her birth but they have their names listed as parents.

Hello friends,

How do I find a specific "Rollo" on FamilySearch. I know how to search under "film number," but someone documented a source using the Roll number and not the film number and I am trying to follow their research back.

My source says the document was at the Archivo del Arzobizpado de Guadalajara, Roll 2989, 1611-1699 and that it is a Capellania. So, I went to the films under those dates at https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-DG9H-6F?owc=3JW2-3TG%3A171…
but lo an behold there is no such roll number, the Capellania that is 1611-1699 is Roll#2986, and the one that is 1611-1854 is roll #2990, both of which are REALLY close, but are not the right number, which again is #2989.

I also looked at the Indexes that Kati Brecht has kindly put together, but I am not finding it. Maybe it has not been digitized?

Any ideas?

I recently ran across a church baptismal record on familysearch.org that stated "abuelos incognitos". This doesn't seem to me that the grandparents were unknown but for some reason are unlisted.
Has anyone run across this before? Why would the grandparents not be named? Any ideas?

I am in search of a photo of my great grandfather Epifanio Mercado son of Ricardo Mercado and Silvestra Vargas date of baptism, April (21 maybe) 1871, born in Rancho Virgenes, Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas died on June 29, 1943 in Monte Escobedo, Zacatecas.

He was married to my great grandma Catalina Robles on March 4th, 1925.

His first marriage was to Casimira Vargas of which they had 6 children: Jose Francisco Mercado, Aurelia Mercado, Maria Soledad Mercado, Maria Concepcion Mercado, Gilberto Mercado and Ediberta Mercado. Most likely a picture could be found by his descendants from his first marriage or from close living relatives of Epifanio.

Thank you for your help in tracking down a photo or more information regarding our family lineage.

April 10th, 2008, the United States Senate passed a bipartisan bill to make the vision of a National Museum of the American Latino a reality.
As we know the Latino museum has not become a physical reality. Sadly, it appears, the direction has been to simply produce a virtual online museum.

However, in 2008, I met Robin Collins who gave me hope. She has real, physical, concrete evidence, living reality of the Spanish/Mexico contributions to development of the United States in . . . a herd of unique horses in Madera, California.

The DNA of these horse have been studied by universities both in California and Texas, substantiating the entry into the Americas of Spanish horses and their continual presence since then.

Since January of this year, in every issue of Somos Primos I have included information on the importance of the Iberian horse/Wilbur-Cruce under the SPAR initiative, the Spanish Presence in Americas Roots.

In this issue you will read about CAREM, A.C. binational effort to trace the Corridor Stories of Baja and Alta California, in collaboration of a UNESCO, World Heritage Initiative. The goal to identify Camino Real de las Californias as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I am new to the list since last week and in this message I'm presenting my
second main line - Cadena - found in Cuquio, San Antonio de los Vasquez and
San Felipe, all in Jalisco. They were espanoles.

Earliest ancestor found is Manuel Cadena married to Ana Santiaga Jacoba
Gomes (dau. of Joachim Gomes and Maria Gertrudis Vasquez, born ca. 1754, San
Felipe/Cuquio). The only child found of this couple thus far is Jose
Leondardo Esculano Cadena, born Nov 1781 in Cuquio. Working backwards,
Manuel would have been born about 1750, but I've been unable to find a
record thus far. Manuel was dead at the time of son Jose's first marriage in
1806; Ana Gomes died between 1806 and Jose's second marriage (to Maria
Eusebia Vasquez) in 1829.

The name Cadena was quite prevalent in the Cuquio area at this time. Jose's
children were born between 1807-1819 in either Cuquio or San Antonio de los
Vasquez, which lies somewhat east of Ixtlahuacan del Rio. One of them, Maria
Francisca Romana Cadena, ended up marrying in Guadalajara to Raymundo
Gutierres of the Gutierres Rubio line found in and around Tepatitlan.

Is anyone else on the list researching the name Cadena? I'm trying to find
out where the family came from before Cuquio - directly from Spain, or
elsewhere in Mexico? Does anyone know of records besides those of the church
for this area? There are gaps in the church records that have made research
difficult. There is also the possibility that the Cadena were in Guadalajara
before Cuquio.

For well over 20 years I’ve been researching my Miramontes family line finally hitting the “wall” years ago. We’ve all experienced this from time to time. I believed I could go no further beyond my 6th Great-Grandfather, Nicolas Miramontes and Juana Sandobal, Great-Grandparents whose names were recorded in their son (My 5th GGparents) Lorenzo Miramontes and Agueda de Jesus Llamas marriage record (Married 14 Jan 1741 in Tlaltenango).

For whatever reason I had a hunch the Nicolas Miramontes and Juana Gonzalez line noted in Arturo Ramos’s “Familia’s Antiguas de Tlaltenango” had some connection. I recall Arturo and I had a short communication many years ago when he was in the midst of his research of the Miramontes descendancy searching marriage records when he generously asked NR members if there was anyone in particular we might be looking for, he would keep an eye out for them. I provided the names of Nicolas Miramontes and Juana Sandoval, named in Lorenzo’s marriage record. He remarked the Nicolas Miramontes he found married to Juana Gonzalez could be the same person I was looking possibly being married to another spouse.

It occurred to me recently to examine the marriage informational records prior to this marriage. In short order these records dated 25 Dec 1740 revealed Lorenzo’s mother as Juana Gonzalez and not Juana Sandoval as noted in his actual marriage record. Apparently using one of either her paternal or maternal surnames in these records. Nicolas Miramontes was living at this time and Juana was deceased. Lorenzo’s grandparents were Matheo de Llamas both and Juana Gonsales, both deceased at this time.

This newfound information led me to the next Lorenzo and Ana Dias de Santiago generation followed by Juan Miramontes and Brigida Ortiz de Urritia.

Now as I’ve studied carefully the Miramontes Family tree in Arturo’s book and the forum discussions concerning the descendancy of the Juan Miramontes and Brigida Ortiz de Urritia to the next generation. I ask the question if it has been established if this Juan is the son of Juan Miramontes and Maria Haro y Saucedo? I have a fair working knowledge of reading Spanish but admit at times have problems following written dialog where someone is explaining relationships from one generation to another.

Any help would be welcome

El listado eventualmente sumo 760 testamentos, y varios miembros de NR decidimos colaborar. Yo transcribi dos la primera semana, y luego, nunca recibi respuesta al enviar el tercero. A few months ago Paco Romo started a very important project in Nuestros Ranchos to transcribe last wills from Aguascalientes (http://www.romogutierrez.com/Transcripciones/Indices/Fondo_Notarial/Tes…). The list eventually included 760 wills, and several NR members began collaborating. I transcribed two the first week, and then, never got a response after submitting the third. Does anyone knows an alternative way to contact Paco other than pacoromog@hotmail.com? I wish to continue transcribing wills since the information contained therein could help us solve several road blocks.

Esta Leonor aparece en los padrones de Jalos en los 1670s como esposa de Diego de la Mota y Padilla. Depues de la muerte del Br. Lazaro Gtz de Hermosillo, dueño de la estancia de la Nascapiloya (cercas de San Miguel el Alto, Francisco Gtz de Hermosillo su hermano y Diego aparecen como herederos del bachiller (esta informacion la herencia la encontre en una carta de poder en los protocolos de Jose L. Ramirez en 1688 y 1689).

Has anyone heard of this couple before Estaban de Aguiar y Quiroga and
Maria Guadalup de la Vega y Rivas or sometimes just Rivas. They're from a
place called Ayo El Chico in Jalisco. They baptised a son and daughter in
1721 and 1722, but i dont know when they were married or if they have more
kids. they probly were born about 1697 or so. I havent been able to find
anything on them except their two kids.

Hello, is there a connection between the names Velasco and Villalbazo? Last night when I was working on my 3rd great-grandmother's family, I discovered that she had children before my 2nd great-grandfather. When my 2nd great-grandfather Manuel Asebes was born, her name was listed as Maria Urzula Villalbazo and her father was shown as Francisco Xavier Villalbazo. It was shown this way for Manuel and his younger siblings. But when I found older siblings last night her name was shown as Maria Urzula Velasco and her father was Francisco Velasco. This was in Sayula, Jalisco, Mexico in the early 1800s. I appreciate any thoughts you might have about this. Thank you.
