I recently learned that my mother's family came from Degollado, not La Barca as previously thought. Many members here have been helpful and supportive in the past so I wanted to post this update and hope for some possible links. The names I am now "researching" are: Bravo, Tinoco, Rizo, Ponce, Santana. These surnames are all on my mother's side and in the Degollado area mid to late 1800's.

Can anyone tell me if they have found any more padrones for Juchipila? I know of the 1819 and 1824 census records and I have searched those and found some pretty promising information but due to the lack of records for Juchipila before 1840, I was hoping to find more padrones. I am searching for records on the Castaneda family around that area, particularly a Rafael Castaneda, married to Simona Flores. Before searching the Juchipila and Moyahua padrones, I had no idea who Rafael's mother and father might be, but now I believe they may be Vicente Castaneda and Lugarda/Leogarda de Aro. This family was in the Moyahua census records in 1818 and then again a couple of years later, however this time, Lugarda was now a widow. Then they were all missing from the next Moyahua census BUT I later found Lugarda de Aro and some of her children in the 1824 Juchipila census (Rincon de Animas), including her 22 year old son, Rafael, and they are listed near a Flores family, including their 19 year old daughter, Simona. AND they are also listed just above another young Flores male married to a Castaneda female with the same name as a sister listed with Rafael while they were still living in Moyahua. It makes me think that maybe Rafael eventually married his sister's sister-in-law. So maybe brother and sister were married to a brother and sister. But they would have been married and starting their family in Juchipila during a time that Juchipila's records are missing. Eventually there are records listing them as grandparents in Juchipila, Moyahua, and Mezquital del Oro, but I am hoping to find that one record that tells me THESE two people (Rafael and Simona) did marry each other and if so, they are probably my great, great, great grandparents. I still have hope i will find a later Juchipila census that shows them married. Those census records also make me think Vicente Castaneda was the brother of Manuel Castaneda, married to Antonia Nunes in Moyahua. And their parents may have been Manuel Castaneda and Antonia de la Torre. I put that out there to hopefully find someone searching for the same family.

This document is from 1702, about Nicolas de Escamilla from Aguascalientes. I am trying to determine if he is or is related to my my ancestor, Nicolas Joseph de Escamilla who married Michaela de Lomeli and then Maria Quiteria de Alfaro Perez in Jalisco. His son, Juan Manuel de Escamilla married Maria Quiteria de Alfaro Perez in Ayo el Chico in 1727.
I am not able to read or understand the document.

These are the protocolos of Domingo Hernandez Cordero, escribano nombrado of Aguascalientes. I think Jaime Holcombe mentioned these in his Cartas. At the time, Geronimo de Aguayo was Alcalde Mayor, and Juan Lopez de Lizardi was Alcalde Ordinario. Here are a few entries and my notes.

On 11 Aug 1607, Juan Garcia de Santa Ana remitted his testamento. I post this here, as a continuation of the denuncia against him, that I posted here at NR. Witnesses present were Padre Tomas Ruiz and Pedro Fernandez de Valdus. From what I can tell, Juan Garcia and his wife, Francisca de Castro, had no children, which is why we’ve never heard of them in genealogy circles.
Note: Padre Tomas Ruiz used to be the vicar of Villa de Lagos, back in the 1580-1590s; he was the one who brought accusations against his predecessor, Padre Alonso Lopez de Espinar, which I posted in another thread in this forum. He was also accused of “solicitante.” It appears he never left Los Altos.
On 11 Aug 1607, Gabriel Sanchez and his wife, Isabel Sanchez de Lara, residents of Aguascalientes, sold to Maria de Frias, widow of Pedro Gonzalez, a house, for 500 pesos. The house was located along the camino real, going towards Zacatecas, and included 2 parcels: one alongside, and the other nearby, used for cultivating wheat. Interestingly enough, though Isabel Sanchez couldn’t sign her name, when a witness in the process against Padre Alonso Lopez, some 15 years before, she was able to sign her name here!

After 9 years of working on records, I came across "coiota" for the first time today. Thanks to a Portuguese-language web site's footnote I now know that it means media-mestiza/media-india.
But I was surprised that it was so difficult to find the meaning online -- and that I could not find a complete list of all the different caste terms used in Mexico over the centuries.
Does anyone know if there is such a list online?
I am looking for any information on Blas Romo De Vivar and Getrudis Ramirez. I have them married in 1761 with the Parents of Blas being Bartolome Romo De Vivar and Margarita Moran De Ledesma. The Only record of Bartolome is Birth in 1673. Many have used that person to claim as the parent but it doesn't match up with Blas approximate age and date of birth. Does anybody have reasearch on thise person to clear that up?

I am researching the Escamilla family of Jalisco and the Noriega family from Zacatecas.
Jose Paulin Escamilla was born about 1740, Marriage records show that he was born in Ayo el Chico or La Barca, Jalisco. His parents are Juan Manuel de Escamilla Maria Perez I have not been a able to find his birth record.
Pablo Noriega son of Joseph Laureno Noriego and Maria de los Nieves Rodarte married Marcelina Urista daughter of Juan Miguel Urista and Antonia Palencia lived in Noria de Angeles, Zacatecas.
Any information that would help me with my research would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking for the parents of Joaquin Munoz de la Barba who is married to Gerónima de Escoto y Tovar. Gerónima was also known as Jeronima De Rodas Ortiz. Joaquín was born circa 1670 and Jeronima was born circa 1672. Jeronima Is the daughter of Ygnacio Escotto and Beatriz. They lived in Jalostotitlan, Jalisco.

Hello, one of my ancestors, Vicente Richarte, is listed in his 14 Feb 1745 Aguascalientes marriage record to Ma. Josefa Ximenes as being of "padres no conocidos," but placed/puesto in the home of Melchor Richarte.

Does this mean that there was likely no biological connection between the child and parent? Is the child in such cases usually an orphan or foundling? Or was this some way of bringing a "natural" biological son into a household?

Ancestry recently changed the number of reference samples for ethnicity estimates from 3,000 to 16,0000, and as a result their estimates of a person’s ethnicity have become more refined.
In the case of my wife (who’s recent ancestors are all Mexican) and my (my recent ancestors are either from the British isles, or Austro-Hungarian Empire and Northern Germany) estimates, the changes make sense.
When you look at your results on Ancestry you can compare the two estimates, and you are given the option of accepting the revised results, if you wish.
my 3rd great grandma is leonarda aldana who married martin aguinaga and had my 2nd great grandma known as silveria aguinaga. who is the correct [arents for them? in records i found a name known as casildo aldana in jalisco, mexico records and others are regarded in marriage records as jose placido aldana and a antonia lopes or hernandes for a last name? i think at this time im leaning towards placido aldana as a correct name as sometimes in the recordsthey can be misspelled or something of the sort. also seen that there were some records referring to el salvador so i would like to know where they came from as well . thanks and merry christmas.
Greetings everyone: I am a new member of this group. My mother’s family is from Aguascalientes. I am trying to identify the parents of my fifth great-grandparents: Felipa Ramona Guadalaxara and Jose Montano Bernal from Aguascalientes. Felipa was likely born around 1760. I cannot find the couple’s marriage record. Their first child was Maria Regina Bernal, b. 1775. It looks like they lived at the Rancho of San Antonio de Buena Vista after Felipa married Jose Montano as their second child (Jose Ignes Guadalupe Montano Bernal b. 1778) was baptized there, and they were still residing there when Ma. Regina married in 1775. Any information or leads on finding their parents would be much appreciated.
Hello! Just visited San Miguel el Alto a few weeks ago with hopes of visiting Rancho de los Ocotes -- where my Gutierrez line resided for @ 150 years prior to arriving in the US. However, when I asked around, the locals told me there were several locations in San Miguel el Alto named "Rancho de los Ocotes." Is this correct?
