On April 26th, joyfully, I added my voice to the many that attending the Westminster City Council meeting. At issue was a resolution to approve an application for "The Mendez Historic Trail and Green Street Bideway Project."

Outside of Orange County, Califoria most people are not aware that the Mendez v. Westminster School District in California took place in 1947, SEVEN years BEFORE the well-known Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.
Kansas.

Both were about the educational civil rights of minority children, who in both cases were segregated into inferior schools. Mexican-heritage children were being placed in remedial Mexican schools through-out Orange County.

Those who spoke in favor of the resolution, were educators, long-term city residents, activists of all ages, even a mother with two small children, thanked the Mendez children, who were in attendance.

I served on the Westminster City General Plan Advisory Committee, and supported the idea of a bike trail, but it was the creativity of Sergio Contreras, past Mayor and current Council Member who saw the opportunity for bringing public visibily to the most important Civil Rights Case in our nation, and it took place right here in Westminster, Orange County California, not Kansas, and through the action of Latinos.

I my search for Juan Manuel Rodriguez born abt 1758 cc: Maria Petra Alonso I found a record for this couple back in 2015 and just today I saw someone added this dispensa in another record. Your ancestor Jose Maria Urrutia, brother of the Manuel Urrutia you mentioned, was born 4 January 1816 in Chihuahua City, and was baptized 6 January 1816 as "Jose Mariano de Jesus Telesforo de los Reyes Urrutia [the IGI says "Orrutia" based on the handwriting] hijo legitimo de Jose Antonio Urrutia y de Doña Mariana Sánchez de Aldana, Españoles (LDS Film # 162665).   The Sánchez de Aldana family is an old family from Michoacán and Jalisco, whose descent from Leonel de Cervantes, Conquistador, is given in "The Colonial Genealogist"  Vol. III, No. 2 (New Series), October 1970, at pp. 73-79.

my great grandmother felisitas coronado was born in october 19 1896 and was married in villa de cos zacatecas mexico to my great grandpa crescencio. her parents were after looking at various census reports marriage records etc looks to be a francisco coronado and or a emilia sanchez. francisco coronado was born in jalisco, mexico around 1869 and was married in zacatecas, mexico. his parents from what i can tell from reading was a romauldo coronado and or a maria gonzalez. im having a hard time finding anything out on romauldo coronados parents who was supposed to be a maria amat and or a andres coronado. andres coronado birth date was supposed to be about 1825 and or wife maria amat was about 1827.. can anyone have a look at my tree information in my files and or helps me ? thanks you to whomever can or points me in right direction. so far from help i found out from connecting other lines of family there may be a family member who lives near neon leon mexico who may or not be alive still and that got me excited so thank you again you all definitely made my day!! im trying to find parents relating to andres coronado and or a maria amat.

This is great news Daniel! Half of my Mexican ancestry comes from Sinaloa,
the other half is Jalisco. I have spent a great deal of time working on San
Ignacio records. Nothing is available prior to 1900 and I have been
informed by the City Offices to go to Culiacan for birth and death
registration. The office there has been quite helpful. I recently completed
a book on the life of my abuelita, Florencia Salazar Aguirre. I am happy
with the first half of her life story--in San Ignacio and the surrounding
ranchos. The rest of the story takes place in San Francisco California. Let
me know if you find other Sinaloa information of interest.

I am asking for you expertise on the following; I have been looking all over for information regarding Martin de Esparza and Juan De Esparza (father and son). Juan de Esparza got married in Aguascalientes in 1752 with Ana Gertrudis Alonso De Los Hinojos (daughter of Manuel Alonso De Los Hinojos and Ma. Efigenia Ramirez). Juan de Esparza's parents were; Martin De Esparza and Manuela Preciado according to Juan's marriage record. Martin and Manuela had another son named Manuel Martin who was born in 1706 and died in 1790, there is a Juan Joseph Martin De Esparza in the Family search record, but it says "En El Sagrario Antes De La Asuncion" and I can't figure out how to get that record (What does Antes de la Asuncion means?). Now, if Juan De Esparza was married in 1752, I figure that he must have been born around 1724-1730. His marriage record establishes that he was from Calvillo and his son Joseph Santiago De Esparza married to Maria Munoz De La Barba in Jalostotitlan, Jalisco on 1791 was from the Villa De Aguascalientes. There are around four different Juanes in that same time period but only two from the Aguascalientes area the other two are from Cienega de Mata Ojuelos and Guanajuato and their mother was a Maria Concepcion not a Manuela. Which creates another problem since in 1731 a Jacinto Martin Esparza married to a Manuela de Luarca or Alorca (their son Manuel Martin died in 7 August 1748), There is a "De Esparza married to a Manuela De La Cruz which had a son named Po Juan De Esparza Cruz on 10 May 1725, and another Xacinto Martin De Esparza married to a Manuela de Los Reies on 18 August 1709. Now if Manuel Martin, Martin De Esparza and Manuela Preciado's son was born in 1706 according to his death record, that puts his parents birth around the 1675-1685's and the only Martins on that time period are Martin Ruiz De Esparza y Sotelo de Xaen and/or Xacinto Martin De Esparza (Matiana De Esparza with Alonso Martin), or were there any other Martin around that same time period? I will appreciate it very much if any of you could give me any information or any guide as to what should I do to resolve these missing links in order to complete my connection to the patriarch Lope Ruiz De Esparza. In advance I thank you.

Todos estos días estoy revisando mi genealogía de la región de los Altos y es por eso que ahora me han surgido nuevos datos. Ahora tengo esta siguiente duda, acabo de descubrir que los padres de mi antepasado Dionisio de Estrada casado con María Guadalupe Martínez, fueron Antonio de Estrada y Teresa Pérez (Ramírez), gracias al acta de matrimonio que está fechada en 1742 en Ciudad Manuel Doblado.

También tengo su acta de bautismo fechada en 11 de Abril de 1717 en Ocotlán, ahí está como Dionisio Teodoro, español, hijo de Antonio de Estrada y Teresa Ramírez que nació en la Hierba Buena. Sus padrinos fueron Don Nicolás de Estrada, hijo de Don Nicolás de Estrada y María de la Mora y Doña María de Retamosa, hija de Juan Macías Valadez y Mariana Barba Coronado. Así está textualmente en dicha acta, mencionando los padres de los padrinos lo cual es nuevo para mí, nunca había visto un registro así.

No tengo más datos acerca si Dionisio pudo haber tenido hermanos, puesto no aparecen más actas, lo que sí es que creo que con la información de los padrinos se podría sacar algo. Alguien sabe que relación podrían tener los padrinos con el recién nacido? serían quizá tíos de él o sus abuelos?

Ahora la segunda pregunta es acerca de Nicolás Flores de Estrada y María de Solis de la Mora y Mendoza que se casaron en Ocotlán, el 25 de Diciembre de 1666, estoy buscando el acta original pero no la encuentro ¿Alguien sabrá quiénes fueron los padres de esta pareja o ha localizado su acta de matrimonio?

Hello, does anyone have information on the parents of Antonia Lomelin married to Joseph Ximenes? They had a son named Manuel Ximenes Lomelin born 08/04/1721 • Mexticacán. There is so much useful data on Carlo Lomellini on this site- who I am a descendant through Francisco Gutierres Rubio's lineage - son Lasaro and his son Lasaro....

I am researching my maternal Ximenes lineage and I was wondering if Antonia Lomelin is the granddaughter or great granddaughter of Carlo. I have not found her or Joseph's birth records, yet I recently began this specific research. I place their birth dates right around 1700 since Antonia and Joseph Ximenes had children from 1720-1750 recorded in Nochistlan; born in Mexticacan.

I descend from Joseph Eusebio Tello de Orosco and Ana Beatriz Gutierrez

They are related "segundo grado" according to their marriage record. That would mean that they are first cousins. The record also states that there is a marriage dispensation, but I haven't found it. I have her ancestors but am having trouble finding his. I am not even sure if I am correctly reading his parents names. I would like to hear other members opinions as to his parent's names.

found 3 of their children: Ysabel born in 1683, Juana in 1684 and Joseph
Francisco born abt 1685 and baptized in San Sebastian, Venado, San Luis
Potosí. I would like to compare notes and see if this is the same Diego you

I recently found the primary family I'm researching in Jalisco had moved over to "San Isidro, Apozol, Zacatecas" by the 1930 census. When I Google this, I keep getting a place called "Los Llamas."

Does anyone know anything of this rancho - San Isidro, Apozol? Does anyone have any contacts in that area?

I'm hitting a wall with death records, marriages. Several of the family members eventually went back to Villa Guerrero/Totatiche to marry, but I have some holes for that period between 1930 and 1950. One of the daughters and Magdalena, the mother, died later in Guadalajara.

I'd really like to get more recent than 1930, too. Here is the family.

En los libros de registros de la parroquia de Chilchota, se analizo que los indigenas era registrados en un libro aparte, los espanoles en otro libro aparte y las demas razas juntos con mulatos, mextizo etc...en otro libro.

Tambien se oberva que negros y mulatos llevaban el apellido "de la Cruz" que le fue impuesto por los espanoles para indentificarlos ya que no tenian un apellido anteriormente. A los mestizos les pusieron como apellido "de la Paz"

Hay veces, como en la esclava mulata de Juan Alvarez del Castillo, tenia una esclava que se llamaba Mariana de Lupiana - como ella era la esclava de su mujer, le pusieron "Lupiana" para identificarla como su propiedad.

So it appears that in the early church records of Chilchota, Michoacan, separate books were kept for those who were Spaniards, Indian, Mulattoes, and Mestizos.

It was also observed that black and mulatto slaves were given the last name of "de la Cruz" to identify them as they had not had a surname. With the mestizos, they gave them the last name of "de la Paz".

Sometimes, as in the case of Juan Alvarez del Castillo, he had a slave mulatto named Mariana de Lupiana. Since this slave belonged to his wife, she was given the last name of "Lupiana", which was his wife's last name - all done to indentify the slave as their property.

Hello, I am new to the group and in the process of researching my father's family (Diaz) which is from Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jalisco. I have included what I know so far. Documents: Civil records from Tepatitlan, maintain original document, show a Jose Ma. Diaz was born on July 5, 1896 to a Julio Diaz and Romana Nario. These same records also show the parent of Julio Diaz to be Encarnacion Diaz & Regina Ramirez and the parents of Romana Nario to be Juan Nario and Gregoria Camerena. Married to Juanita Magallenas Luna who, according to original Civil documents from Mayahua De Estrada, Zacatecas, was born on January 6, 1904. While in the U.S., she maintained a DOB of December 7, 1903. She died in March of 1903 in Sacramento. Have not committed to her genealogy but have been able to determine that her mother was named Albina Magallanez -1867 (Zacatecas) –1941 (Salinas, CA). and her father was named C. Florencio Luna who was born in 1868 in Mexico (Zacatecas).

Through Familysearch.org, have been able to determine that a Julio Dias Ramires was christened on April 15, 1850 in Tepatitlan De Morelos, Jalisco, Mexico.
