Your idea sounds quite good. I really don't think it would be too much of a hassle to have to register to the other site. We should keep our private genealogies right here in Ranchos (1) and put other files and messages in Ranchos2. But having the other site sounds like a perfectly good idea. Steven H.

An option could be to use MyFamily.com. It is private
and secure. Individuals must be registered as members
and must have a userid and password to access the
information. You have access to 5MB of storage for
free. You can also increase your storage to 105MB for
a fee of $19.95 per year. More storage is available
for more money.

we are running out of room in the File area for storing the genealogies.
We are allowed 20,000 kb and are currently using 14,500 kb. We have a
little room to go but want to discuss this problem with you all.
I have a website at usgenealogy.net and the site owner said that I could
start up another webpage just for the group. We could use the page just
to post genealogies, but it wouldn't be private like the Yahoo site. But
it would be private in that only members would know the address. Well I
guess that's really not private as someone could just wander into the
site and look at everyone's genealogy. Or some future disgruntled member
could go and post the webpages address all over the internet.
We could start a second YahooGroup called Ranchos2 and use the 20,000kb
of the files in that group to store genealogies but then everyone would
need to be subscribed to that group as well. . .a bit of a hassle but
not to hard to
Primo, My great great grandfather Jose Manuel Cervantes married Juana Maria Gonzales in 1835 in Zocoalco de Torres. The marriage record shows the parents of Jose Manuel Cervantes as Rafael Cervantes and Marcelina Diaz. I should have looked at the marriage closer and see what village they were from. I also have a Seja line in Zacoalco de Torres. Have you come across any Sejas in your genealogy? By the way I am also in my 20's. I am three years older then you. I thought I was the youngest guy, I guess you beat me. Well I will consider you a primo. The municipio of Zacoalco de Torres can't be that big. I bet we are related for sure. Hello Steve:
1. My research is focused more on my father's
side . . . Iglesias Family Tree from the state of Jalisco. The Iglesias family are originally from the little towns of Guachinango, Atenguillo, and Ameca. I noticed that you have Curiel as one of your surnames. My Iglesias family members married a lot of Curiel's . . . just interested to see if there is a connection. 2. I'm located in Southern California . . .
I'm not sure if you have any family members down here that are Tapia but I sure do know some. . . I want to say that they are from Jalisco . . . They are very tall and light skinned. 3. I also know an Apodaca
family. Janet

Hello there,
My name is Steven Hernández. A while back I posted some very good information regarding specifically the Martín del Campo family. Do a quick search for them in the messages section of the Ranchos newsgroup. You'll be pleasantly surprised and delighted. Oh, and by the way, when you say "Mariano Leal" you are no doubt referring to Dr. Lic. Mariano González-Leal, of the families González de Rubalcava and Leal de Araujo. Don Mariano is indeed a wealth of knowledge and information when it comes to Alteño genealogy. He and I email practically every day.
By the sound of it, and your family connections, you and I are related, as I am also a Martín del Campo, Muñoz, Márquez, Padilla, Barba (Muñoz de la Barba), and a Lozano, among others. Check out my family tree (The first 9 generations) in "Steven Hernández's stuff."
Sincerely,
Steven Francisco Hernández Gamiño y López de los Reyes

Hello, I discovered an interesting site with an extensive list of definitions of racial classifications used by the Spanish. In addition to the definitions, there are beautiful paintings of mixed race adults and children. I'm not one to get emotional over paintings, but these really moved me, particularly after discovering the extent of my diversity. http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache:Vb4w2oDMqa8J:www.tarver- genealogy.net/aids/spanish/sp_racial_terms.html+coyote+racial+classif ications+photos&hl=en&start=1&ie=UTF-8 For those of you who have discovered mulato or coyote roots, don't miss this "Castas" exhibit: http://www.tarver-genealogy.net/visual/exhibits/castas/ulthm1_1.html And Joe, that was a clever little response to my introduction. I'm going to propose that the members call you "Dr. Puentes" from now on. Alice

I'll Amen that. I'm 50 and if I had started when I was 20 I could have
talked to my mother, father, grandmother, even some really old folks
that were alive at that time. ooooh, just thinking about all that oral
history that passed before I got interested. If I had one word of advice
it would be "ORAL HISTORY." (well I guess thats two). Remember these old
records we're finding have been sitting there waiting for us to come dig
them up but with every generation that passes the oral history passes
with them and it is unrecoverable. . .forever lost. the stories and
really important stuff about who we are is gone. Steve, Alice, all. .
.go for the oral history.

I was invited to this group by Joseph Puentes. I think it is a great idea to create a group not only focused in genealogy but in a specific area. My name is Steve Apodaca. As you can see in the family tree that I recently uploaded, I am in my early 20's. Until last year I was a college student, but dropped out because of lack of cash. Now I am working and saving money so that I go back to school. During my free time, I do my genealogy research. I started my research a couple years ago, but because of school and work and other 'duties' I haven't researched as much as I wished. I have not found ancestors in Zacatecas and Aguascalientes, yet. All of my ancestors come from the state of Jalisco. These are the towns and surnames that I am researching. Amacueca: Aguilar Atenguillo: Curiel, Pena, Diaz, Cazarez Barranca del Espiritu Santo: Frias El Crucero: Ramirez, Gamino, Ursua, Ornelas Guadalajara: Tapia San Marcos Evangelista: Cervantes Santa Catarina: Apodaca, Bonal Sayula
Hello, it is true what you say about this classification upgrade because I found that in my own research. My ancestor Jose Domingo Apodaca was classified as a mestizo in his marriage certificate from 1784. His wife was espanola. Of course, his son Antonio Apodaca would be mestizo too, right? But when I found the marriage record of the son, he was classified as espanol, the same as the mother. Was the indian blood lost from one generation to the next? I have read that these racial terms had no scientific basis, and they were used to describe the appearance of the individual, rather than his ethnic mixture. --- In ranchos@yahoogroups.com, alice wissingwrote: > Folks, > > I can't remember where I read this, but in some parts of Mexico the term Coyote simply meant a Mestizo, with the person not necessarily being part black. For Spanish terms in New Mexico church records go to: http://www.genealogybranches.com/valencia/wordlist.html Mestizo - mixture of Spanish & Mexican Indian Coyote - mixture of Indian & Mestizo (may also denote a mixture of Spanish & New Mexican Indian) So in New Mexico a Coyota(e) could be a person with blood mixture of half Spanish and half mestiza. A mestiza is half Spanish and half Indian. So that would be 3/4 Spanish and 1/4 Indian.
