Dear Rancho Researchers--

For years, I followed my husband's family lines back
many centuries. Now I find what gives me great
pleasure is turning to more recent times. For some of
us, the 1930 Mexican Census is like the day before
yesterday in genealogical thinking.

My husband was born in the small village of Santa
Rita, Jalisco. In March, I talked to some of his
friends and got a little information on them. I was
able to visit the cemetery and started putting things
together before we left to come home. It was fun to
talk to one of the oldest residents and ask about this
person and that. Even better was being able, as a
stranger, to tell them things that they were surprised
I knew. Together we are finding out more.

In a few days, I will again be researching in Santa
Rita, of the municipio of Ayotlan. I think the
current population is near 4,000. My goals are to
work backwards from the 1930 Census to find out who
the founding fathers were and to help others get
connected to their past.

Some of the names I am very interested in are
Barragan, Mendoza, Nolasco, and Zaragoza. I have
numerous gaps because I don't have all the films I
need yet recently, I was able to view at the local
Family History Center, the 1850 marriages of some of
the residents of the Hacienda Santa Rita.

Ultimately, I would like to put enough names into
circulation so that when others come along, it will be
easier for them to find their roots. I don't have any
relatives in this village. My husband has only one
line that he is distantly connected to but the joy and
excitement about doing this and sharing it with the
people who call Santa Rita their home is immeasurable.

Thanks to member Sally who provided more ancestors for me to research, I was able to find Nicolasa de la Torre, father Roque de la Torre, mother Juana de la Torre, christening date 24 March 1694. FHL film 439844 dates 1685-1716 recorded in Jerez de Garcia Salinas, Zacatecas, Mexico, two generations away from what Sally has called The Tronco of my Gonzales line. Muy bien dicho y estoy totalmente de acuerdo con lo que dice. Aunque el
racismo existe de los dos lados. Si alguien se atreve a expresar orgullo de
sus ancestros Españoles parece que se considera una gran ofensa. Uno puede
expresar orgullo de sus raices indigenas pero no europeas sin que alguien se
ofenda. Me parece que existe mas racismo de un lado que del otro. Ojala
que mi perpectiva tambien sea respetada.

Mucho muy interesante Vicente, en particular para los que nos encontramos por EU, que no pasa un dia sin que se encuentre uno con sus paisanos, sea el mesero del restaurante, el jardinero del vecino o el obrero en construccion. Ahora imaginate la animosidad que sienten los Estado Unidenses al encontrarse con nosotros a cada paso. Casi casi como se han de sentir los Jaliscienses al ver que la puresa de Los Altos ya no esta tan pura, sino mesclada de todos colores y paises.

En mi humilde opinion, es lo que le da el savor a la vida, el roce que tenemos con los que nos enseñan algo de afuera, algo desconocido que nos hace pensar, que nos ayuda a apreciar las cualidades internas y externas.

Por eso es que los que estamos en EU tenemos el gran deseo de investigar lo de nuestros ancestros. Le cuento a mis primos de Mexico lo de la genealogia y la respuesta de siempre es, "Porque te interesa eso".
Sera que uno no esta cerca de sus raices y siempre anelamos lo que no tenemos.

La pregunta es, ¿habrá un impacto fuerte en la genealogía de algunos pueblos alteños? Sin ánimo de discriminar, recordemos que se trata de una inmigración eminentemente indígena.
Otras migraciones hacia el Estado de Jalisco ocurrió durante 1985, después del terremoto en el Distrito federal. En otros lugares han llegado nuevos pobladores provenientes de Veracruz, República del Salvador, Venezuela y Cuba.

me da mucho gusto ser parte de esta comunidad. Esta es mi primera mensaje y me gusteria presentarme y pedir asistencia. Soy carolins, nieta de Refugio de la Torre de San Juan de Los Lagos, Jalisco. Refugio "Cuca" era mi abuela maternal y su papa era Fidencio "papalencho" de la Torre y su madre era Justina Gonzales. El padre de Fidencio de la Torre era Zenon de la Torre.

Mi esposo es Correa de Tlaltenango, Zacatecas y tambien estamos buscando informacion sobre ellos. Despues les puedo dar mas informacion sobre los Correa. Ahora no puedo porque estoy estudiando y trabajando en Guanajuato y no traigo mis documentsos. Ivamos a ir nos a San Juan ayer pero mi hija se enfermo y tenemos que esperarar una semana mas.

Hi,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I added some more photos to my
Martin del Campo album. One is of Ismael Martin del Campo. I don't know
when the picture was taken, though, but it is in Guadalajara. He was
married to Rita Robles Rivera and was father to Alberto and Dolores, my
great-aunt Lola. The other picture is the full view of a previous photo I
had placed in my album. The original picture had the top part cut off, so
this new one I added is the full view. It is of Rita Robles Rivera with her
daughter, Dolores "Lola" Martin del Campo and Lola's friend, Rosario Torres.
I thought it was important to add this full-view photo, as well, because
someone in Nuestros Ranchos might be related to Rosario Torres. I have a
third picture to add, but I need to work on it some more, it is of Jesus
Robles, who was Rita's sister. I have more Robles family photos, too.

I didn't have time to stick more names that I had found, but now I will.
We are related threw Cristobal but also his grandparents, Juan Gutirrez de Mendoza and Ana Camacho. Cristobal's father, Salvador Gutierres de Mendoza 1660. The information I found out about his family was, which you probably already have or you can also correct me if I'm mistaken, the parents of Juan were Francisco Gutierres de Mendoza Rubio 1594 y Francisca Hurtado 1599. The parents of Francisco were Francisco Gutierres de Mendoza Rubio y Ana Gonzalez Florida. Francisca's father was Rodrigo Olivares.
Ana Camacho's parents were Silvestre Camacho 1585 y Teresa Gonzalez de Hermosillo 1589.

Genealogy is about the Life Events of our Ancestors. So when you send in
an email to the group please ask specific questions and give specific
information about the Life Events of your Ancestors so we might be able
to help you.

Note: DO NOT send in messages, examples given below, which can typically
be found on Rootsweb:

"Hi, I'm researching Jimenez, Sanchez and Gomez. Any help is
appreciated. Thanks in advance."

Or

"My Abuelito's name was Estevan Perez. Does this name ring a bell?
Please help."

These above messages give very very little information and should never,
ever ever be the kind of messages posted to a SERIOUS genealogical
research group.

Rather you should carefully consider the life events of your ancestors
and draw an outline of the information you have. Write down the
information you've assembled from talking to other relatives and then
from that information intelligently approximate some of the other life
events.

For example:

If your grandfather was born in 1876 and your father as the first born
was born in 1903 in Colotlan, Jalisco. They you could give an educated
guess that your grandparents might have been married sometime around
1902 or so and you can also guess that they might have been married in
the Colotlan area. If he was the 4th born then you can guess that they
might have had children every other year or so and that your
grandparents were married about 1894 or so.

So go through and assemble the facts and approximate the other life
events: births, marriages, deaths and by doing so your messages might be
transformed to these possible messages:

My nephew was born with the Mongolian blue spot. The only person in our family we believe was ever born that way. Like your haplogroups, his purplish spot at the base of his spine is like a signpost pointing across the Pacific.

Mexico has a long connection with the east. as Arturo indicated. The Filipinos cheered "Viva Mexico, Mabuhay!" when they heard Mexico had broken away from Spain. They expected it was their turn next. And indeed, a Mexican soldier serving in Manila declared the Independence of the Phillippines.

But the Spaniards swiftly caught him, and hung him from the highest tree.

The last flotilla left Las Filipinas loaded with silks and porcelains from China for Acapulco. and beyond.

But the Mexican govenrment confiscated the goods and refused to compensate the Filipino merchants, bankrupting many, and bringing an end to the Spanish Galleon trans-Pacific trade.
