The above title can be found under reference material. It has dates and names of Testaments of various vecinos de San Luis Potosi, 1600. there are about 10 of them.

I concur with the voices calling for the end of the political rhetoric on
this site. While I am interested in Latino points of view, this is not the
place for it. My point of view grows out the efforts to establish Ethnic
Studies in our universities and high schools, workers rights, social
justice for all communities, opposition to mass incarceration, economic
opportunities for our people, etc, etc. I do not need voices to which I
object while I am doing genealogical work. Please put an end to this.

There is so much troubling conflict and division in our nation currently, it is painful to observe. The current focus seems to be to change history, by taking down evidence of our history.

Taking down statues do not change history. What the statue represent is where we've been. Exclusion causes confusion.

Where we are now, the haven for all searching for freedom and safety, grew out of a slow acceptance of the tenets on which our constitution is based, respect for the rights of the individual, based on Judeo-Christian beliefs.

We did not get here through rioting in the streets, advocating murder, burning cars and buildings. We have achieved civil equity by law and order. Yes, there are abuses and injustices, and those obviously need to be stopped.

However, to accept lawlessness as the answer to civil injustices escalates the chaos. It does not solve the situation of learning to live with those who are historically different from us, the newly arrived, as well as those with the earliest of ancestral Americans.

Who are we, why and where did we come from? Those are the questions.
Erasing the past, veils the facts.

The world needs a strong America.

Is there a history book or published paper on the first Spanish families of Zacatecas, Mexico, preferably in English? I have read the papers from John P Schmal on the History of Zacatecas and its indigenous people but I wanted to know if there has been a write up on the ranches and the first families of Jerez, Zacatecas, in particular, Los Rodartes. I am right at the point in my research wanting to know more of the peoples of my ancestors and why they settled where they did. Who was the first Rodarte family from the “Los Rodartes” area? Where did they come from and when? Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

Im tracing back my ancestors in Teocuititlan de Corona, Jalisco. My 5th great-grandmother Germana Gutierres Barragan born 1831 La Manzanilla, Daughter of Antonio Gutierres and Juana Maria Barragan.Married Antonio Nóvoa in 1851.

I found her baptism record 1831 Teocuititlan de Corona. list the Grandparents paternal- Sisto Gutierres born abt.1800 and Maria Cirila Ocampo Maternal- Vicente Barragan and Maria Dias.

Found 3 baptism records for Sisto and Maria Cirila Ocampo, this is were started to get tricky, paternal grandparents Antonio Gutierres, the grandmother is different in all three records Maria Sicilia Delgadillo, Lozano and Suaso. maternal GPs are the same in all 3 records as Juan Trinidad Campos and Maria Anastasia Lopes

i have not been able to find a marriage or baptism record for Sisto Gutierres and Maria Cirila Ocampo.I did find however a marriage record for Antonio Gutierres and Maria Sicilia Suazo married 1772 in Tepatitlan de Morelos.

I couldn't find anything as Maria Delgadillo or Lozano, so I'm assuming that Suazo would be the right information for the baptism records. It would make sense that Sisto was born after their marriage in 1772 around 1780 his son Antonio around 1805 and Germana 1831. If someone could check this out and let me know what they think I would really appreciate it want to make sure i have the right information.

I hope some very savvy members can help me in finding out who the mother of Pedro Velasco Navarrete married to Mariana de Aceves was.

The following is a very long Dispensa stating Andrea Rodríguez married to Juan de Aceves -
Pretenso's parents, Pretenso also named Juan de Aceves - was the sister of Cristóbal Becerra and also the sister of this Pedro Velasco Navarrete:

The file is full of testimonies confirming these relationships.

There is a Dispensa stating Pedro Velasco and Mencia de Velasco were siblings:

So Pedro and Mencia were father-only siblings and their father was also named Pedro Velasco (In the long Dispensa Pedro is named "El Mozo", something similar to "Junior").

Therefore Andrea Rodríguez and Pedro Velasco were mother-only sibling.

Who is that woman who probably married both, Pedro Velasco (The father of Pedro and Mencia) and also married the father of Andrea Rodríguez and Cristóbal Becerra?

I came across some ancestors from Tepatitlan de Morelos, Juan Gutierres De la Torre married to Maria Josepha Servantes. Found their marriage record 1743 in Tepatitlan, Jalisco Juan is the son of Andres Gutierres De la Torre and Josepha Sanches. Maria Cervantes parents are Joseph Servantes and Juana Carrillo.

I found a marriage record for an Andres De la Torre and Josepha Sanches August 1722 Tepatitlan. Im asumiing is the same couple i dont think the paretns are listed and i cant seem to undestand the writing.

So my question is why do does Juan use Gutierres De la Torre and if the other Andres are the same person why does he only use De la Torre and not Gutierrres.

Does anyone have any information on this family from Tepatitlan de Morelos? I cant seem to go pass Andres or find any information on the Carvantes couple. I did read a cuple post on here about some De la Torre families, but i cant seem to find any information on that especific couple.

Thomas Hillerkuss of the Universidad Autonoma de Zacatecas has recently published the third volume of Diccionario Biografico del Occidente Novohispano. The first volume (A-C) is out of stock but there are still copies of the second volume (D-G) for 220 pesos and the third volume (H-I) is available for 350 pesos.

I will be ordering a set of the latter two volumes and Dr. Hillerkuss has agreed to provide the first volume electronically (on a CD). I am wondering if there are any other members who might be interested in acquiring a set. My parents are currently in Mexico and I will have the books sent to them and they will be able to deliver them to me sometime in July. For Father's Day I would like to share the ancestry of Alvaro Herrera. This work is not complete as I am missing a generation, possibly two generations, because the Alvaro Herrera that came to Mexico is eighty years old when the Alvaro Herrera that was married to Catalina Aceves de Hermosillo is said to be born by some genealogists.

The Alvaro Herrera that came to Mexico descends from:

1) Alonso de Alarcón (alcaide de Zafra) + Juana de Santoya

2). Hernan Ruiz de Alarcón + Doña Catalina De la Torre

3). Juan de Alarcón (not married) Leonor Paéz (daughter of Jewish Portuguese
Bartolome Paéz)[because of the social status of Juan Alarcón he was not allowed to marry Leonor]

4) capitán Juan Ruiz de Alarcon (d. late 1593) + Ana López de Ribera, (daughter of Ana López de Ribera (daughter of Diego López de Ribera + Isabel de Villalobos)

5) Maria de Alarcón + Juan Herrera

6) Alvaro Herrera traveled to the Americas in the latter part of the 16th century and left many descendants in what is now Mexico.

7) [missing generation(s)] [though it is possible that there is not a missing generation, it is not likely because (6) is eighty-two when (8) is born. I have not seen the evidence yet for (8)'s birth year so he possibly could have been born earlier.

Hello all. I am Jesús Rodríguez. I am new to this endeavor, and am constantly learning new things. My main area of interest is the municipalities of Valle de Juarez (formerly known as Valle de Mazamitla), Mazamitla, and Quitupan in the state of Jalisco. La Barca and the rest of Los Altos are also of great interest. The last names I am researching are Vega, Cisneros, Chavez, and most importantly, Rodriguez.

My first goal is to trace my Rodriguez patrilineal line all the way to Spain. I am aware of how great a task that could be, especially for a surname that has been as thoroughly diffused as Rodriguez. Nevertheless, I have made some progress. Using the 1930 Census, other civil records, Church records, and help from relatives, I have been able to trace back my ancestry beyond any reasonable doubt to 1873. First, there is my grandfather, Pascual Rodriguez, born in 1902 in Valle de Juarez and son of Sostenes Rodriguez and Maria Vega. Siblings include Manuel Rodriguez (b. 1904) and Maclovia Rodriguez (b. 1906). Sostenes Rodriguez was born in 1873, baptized in Mazamitla on 1 December, and was the son of Manuel Rodriguez and Trinidad Silva, and grandson of Jose Rodriguez and Teresa Martinez.

The details get hazy from Manuel Rodriguez onward. According to the 1930 Census in Valle de Juarez, Manuel Rodriguez was 75 years old, putting his birth year at around 1855. Also according to the Census, Trinidad Silva was 70 years old, putting her birth year at around 1860. However, that would make her only 13 when she gave birth to Sostenes Rodriguez, yet she is documented everywhere else as his mother. I have yet to find any other pertinent records for Manuel Rodriguez, Jose Rodriguez, and Teresa Martinez.

Of note are some physical features of both Sostenes Rodriguez and his father Manuel Rodriguez. Sostenes and Manuel were pale, freckled, and had red hair and green eyes, for which it was rumored that they were actually Spaniards. The features that still appear in much of my family today are the clear greenish eyes and the very light skin.

I would appreciate any help or guidance in advancing my investigation and tying up any loose ends. Thanks!

where can i go to find a marriage dispensation or something of the relevance for a jose domingo cervantes who had married maria nieves terrones on may 2,1798 in cinega de mata , jalisco mexico. 8 childrens name were found in records pertaining to cinega de mata mexico such as maria diega , antonio , feliciano just to name a few names. mothers name in marriage record of maria terrones and or domingo only lists jose cervantes mother as juana? no maiden name to her or anything has been found on as yet and they are of my 6th great grandparents.

I am new to the group, although not so new to doing Los Altos genealogical research. My name is Kassandra Brenot; I am the great-grand-daughter of a Los Altos couple who came to the U.S. during the cristero war.
About 25 years ago I began researching my family roots in Los Altos, thanks to my Marquez cousins and the Somos Primos group in the greater Los Angeles area (including Mimi Lozano and Mary Lou Montagna and the stellar work they all got me going on, for which I shall be forever indebted). While my professional and family duties have pulled me away from my passion for genealogy over the course of the past twenty years or so, through some recent unexpected encounters through my work I have reconnected with my Los Altos roots...

I am the head of an all girls, Catholic boarding school in Monterey, California and have discovered that a few of the families at my school are Los Altos families! Knowing the prevalence of endogamia amongst los alteños, I figured we must be related so.... during my summer vacation, I dug back into my old files and jumped online and have been helping these families get started on researching their lines.

Lo and behold, we are related and we are now looking to start a small Los Altos research group here on the Monterey Peninsula. We had our first mini-get together last night with a small group that represented Ramirez, Loza, Campos and Gutierrez. Some of the members of these families immigrated only within the past 20 years, while others immigrated in the 1950s, settling in the Salinas Valley. As for my own family, it was my great-grandparents María Gonzalez Muñoz and José Lorenzo Loza Muñoz who emigrated from San Miguel el Alto to Carpinteria, California in 1926. Some of the names I am researching farther back in my lines (in the areas of Jalostotitlán, San Juan, Aguascalientes and Ayo el Chico) are the following:
