Hey everyone, Hope you all are having a good weekend. I made time today to add some files to my new Jalisco folder, more specifically Jalostotitlan, San Miguel El Alto, and San Juan de los Lagos. The most common names in these files are Gonzalez, Martin, & Padilla. I'm not all that far into the history of my familia in Jalisco. But I'll be making a lot of additions in the next four months. I'm fortunate to be able to go to Salt Lake City and the Family History Library there, and will make a lot of additions to these files in early December and early February. Check it out. Take care, Roberto

Hello, I'm glad you are interested in joining the Ranchos group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ranchos/. We are a small but dedicated group of serious researchers. Here is the description of the group from our home page: "This group is for those actively searching for their Mexican Genealogy Roots. El objetivo de este |

Hey hey, Roberto Martínez! On behalf of the entire Ranchos group, I would like to welcome you. My name is Steven F. Hernández, and just by the sound of the few names and Los Altos de Jalisco localities you mentioned, I can already tell you that you and I are related.
You will find you already have other distant (or not so distant) kin in Ranchos. Alice Wissing, María E. Cortéz, Irma Gómez Lucero, Roberta Romero, and María Elena (Nena) Gutiérrez Uhlenberg, among others I'm sure, share common ancestry from Los Altos. Irma and Nena in particular, as well as myself, have many common roots in Jalostotitlán, San Miguel el Alto, San Juan de los Lagos, as well as many other towns. There all the Martín/Martínez/Martín del Campo/Campos are one in the same family. That MAY be your actual surname, Martín del Campo, as it was used in the past. Seems everyone with Alteño genealogy descends from that family at least once, if not more.
But the same can be said about some or many of the

Hope everyone is doing well. Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Roberto Martinez living in Albuquerque, Nuevo Mexico. First want thank Joseph for putting in time to create this space.

Soledad Gonzalez was born in Villa Obregon in 1920 to Sabas Gonzalez Munos & Zeferina Gonzalez Padilla, who were married in the early 1900?s.
Sabas Gonzalez was born in San Miguel El Alto in 1879 to Maximino Gonzalez Vallejo & Jacoba Munos Losa, who were married in San Miguel El Alto in 1876.
Zeferina Padilla was born in San Miguel El Alto in 1885 to Guadalupe Padilla Martin & Cleofas Gonzalez Centeno, who were married in San
I have also seen this in Jalisco records. The father was listed as "desconocido." Also Paternal grandparents were not even mentioned either.I have seen many similar situations for Indian & Mulata women.Makes you wonder who the fathers were, huh?Did the woman never mention the father's name to the priest or were the names divulged in confession which would NEVER have become public record. I think more the latter. It isn't that the priest would be protecting the father, it's more the confidentiality of the Confession.Something to think about...Irma Gomez-----Original Message-----

Good news. Try
the below website. Steve Compos has
names you are looking from Jerez, which I believe will help you find your family. Good
luck. Alberto.

No, I don't know any
of the Macias or Ramirez families. But these 2 last names are very predominate in the history of Jerez. Alberto.

|
Al; Thank you for your post about Jerez,
Zacatecas. My grandparents are from there and I didn't know that it was so close to Jalisco. Do you have a contact with a Macias family member in Jerez ? I am a descendant of Francisco Macias and Leonarda Ramirez, of Jerez, Zacatecas. Sincerely,
Jose Luis Macias

Hi Everyone!

Here is some humor that I found in a message board. I hope you get a laugh out of it like I did and realize that all of our ancestors did this. ANCESTORS GUIDE TO NAMING 1) Thou shalt name your male children: James, John, Joseph, Abel, Richard, Thomas or William. 2) Thou shalt name your female children: Elizabeth, Mary, Martha, Maria, Sarah, Ida, Virginia or Mae. 3) Thou shalt leave NO trace of your female children. 4) Even after naming your children using the above lists, thou shalt never refer to them by those names again; instead, thou shalt call them by strange nicknames, such as: Ike, Eli, Polly, Dolly, and Sukey. 5) Thou shalt not use any middle names on ANY legal documents or census reports and whenever possible, use only initials on legal documents. 6) Thou shalt learn to sign all documents illegibly so that your surname can be spelled, or misspelled in various ways: Tipper, Topper, Hopper, Tucker, Tapper. 7) Thou shalt, after no more than
Hi Everyone! I realize my introduction to the Ranchos Group is well overdue. My name is Lourdes Rodriguez Jimenez. I have been researching my ancestors off and on for a few years now but have dedicated much time to my research over the last year. My family is from a ranch called Las Animas (also known as Daniel Camarena) which is located approximately 1-2 miles outside of Nochistlan, Zacatecas. The surnames I am researching are as follows: Rodriguez, Jimenez, Romo, Oropesa, Ramires, Ortega, Contreras, Martines, Borrayo, Lomelin, Cervantes (Quesada), Melendres, Padilla, Donlucas, Nunon (Nunez), Delgadillo, Quirarte, Prieto and Macias. I have not traced any of my ancestors outside of Nochistlan, yet! My earliest data dates back to the mid 1800s - late 1700s. I was really exciting about finding this group and I truly look forward to working with all of you, sharing ideas, tips and information. Sincerely, Loulou

In a message dated 9/10/2004 11:21:17 AM Central Standard Time, alice_wissing@... writes: As far as some states never mentioning or listing the father's name, Let's see if I can get this right: The priests would not necessarily be protecting the identity of the father, more like the priest would have not sanctioned such an off-spring, and so the woman and child forever was "labeled" because of their parent's indiscretions. However, on the other hand, where the Catholic Church and government often acted in unison - it meant that the illigitimate child and the mother never would have an opportunity to claim any inheritance from the father's family.
