I was at the local FHC yesterday to view film #1164746/Valparaiso Church Records- Informacion matrimonial, 1904-1907. I was perusing the film - wanted to see who was from Astillero, besides my grandfather and grandmother, when I came across a record that just made me wonder (these are the basics, not finite details because I didn't write them down): The bride and groom were both surnamed Ramirez; the groom was 24 years old; the bride was a 40-something widow; the bride was the sister of the groom's father. Has anyone else come across a similar record/situation? I wonder what the story is? I know that this isn't exactly what this board is for - but just thought I'd share a "research" experience. Natalie
Hello, I, too, am new to the group. My Great Grandmother was Demetria Olague born in 1888 in Torreon, Coahuila, married 'Jose MIGUEL PACHECO Garcia' on Aug. 1, 1911 in Torreon, Coahuila. My Great Grandfather Miguel Pacheco was born in Valparaiso and is the son of Bruno PACHECO Galicia(b.1855) & Cesarea GARCIA Arroyo(b.1858) born and married in Valparaiso, Zacatecas. Demetria is the daughter of Eufemio Olague & Ysabel Gomez and was christen in Jerez De Garcia Salinas, Zacatecas. My Pacheco Garcia line from records found show Valparaiso, Zacatecas. Cesarea's parents Marcial Garcia (b.1832) & Maria Del Refugio Arroyo (b.1832) were born & married in Valparaiso, Zacatecas. Do any of these names sound familiar? Have been unable to find any additional linking info on the OLAGUE's. Have heard through family that Demetria had a brother but no one knows his name and have been unable to make a connection. Well I am going to have to find a map of zacatecas and look at how far these
places are from each other. I only know that we have family in El Teul and
Florencia Zacatecas, but I am not ruling out any surrounding areas until I
know for sure.

I was in Zacatecas and in Jerez over a week in
Nov/Dec 1997. This was a dream trip of a lifetime that had been a year in the planning. The only thing I had not considered was the high altitude and I got so sick. I ended up having to go to a clinic where I received excellent treatment. My husband booked us on a flight and we left Zacatecas before we had originally planned. I wanted to ride a bus TO Zacatecas from Juarez
(our point of embarkation) so that I could see and appreciate the landscape that my grandmother had seen on her trip north from Zacatecas. It really was TOO long a bus ride and even though we left the Juarez terminal about 9:30 in the morning, we did not get to Zacatecas until 3 am. (We'd been told that it was an express bus straight to Zac). One last thing, make sure you have a visa and get

Hi Edward, The Quinta Real in Zacatecas is beautiful. It was once a Bull Ring, but you probably already knew that. I was there only for the day, but I checked it out with my tia and primas. It was very cool because they have built shops into it, a restaurant, etc., The center which is where the bulls ran, is a huge beautiful, outdoor plaza for receptions. The entire city is gorgeous. The Spanish colonial presence is very real in this city with rod iron rejas & balconies. There is a wonderful museum on the Mexican Revolution which is definitely worthwhile. There is a display of currency from that time period too. There is an old convent built during the Spanish reign which is missing it's ceiling due to the Mexican Revolution. Can't say enough! Zacatecas to Aguascalientes is quite a distance. I went two years ago, and the trip was essentially a day trip. I would stay in both cities. Aguascalientes is another worthwhile city to visit. There is a lot of history there as well

My grandmother, Antonia Fernandez married Simon Felix and later Trinidad Felix who became my grandfather...all fom Jerez. I have a birth doc. that says the father of Trinidad was Tomas Felix. Well, hello yourself, Marge. I was wondering what ever happened to you. I have traced my Olagues only as far back as the mid-1800's to A Santiago Olague and Eduviges Suriano from Tepetongo. They were the parents of my great grandfather Pedro Olague. My great-grandfather married Rafaela Tinajero whose parents were Hilario Tinajero and Teodosia Flores. I do know that all Olagues in Mexico are descended from Miguel Olague, but I still have to bridge the gap from my lines to his. We are all primos, no?

In my husband's family, Lugardo Fonseca married Maria Del Refugio Ornelas in
San Diego De Alejandria in Jalisco in 1841, daughter of Benito Ornelas from
Arandas. His father was Jose Blas Ornelas of San Juan Perez. Maybe you will

I am planning to go to Zacatecas in four weeks. My original plan was to stay in Zacatecas, Zacatecas (Quinta Real Zacatecas Hotel) as a base, traveling on day trips to Valparaiso, Sombrerete, Colotlan, and Aguascalientes. I would appreciate any comments on alternative accomodations, alternative towns I can use a base, local hotels, rental cars, or guides. Actually the Quinta Real Zacatecas, sounds like a neat place.
Maybe some of you have traveled there. I have never seen much of Mexico except the tourist resort spots or the border towns.

(born around 1874 in Jerez or Tepetongo and died in Brush, Colorado
on May 9, 1943) and his mother was Gorgonia Garcia who died in Jerez
around the turn of the last century. Francisco's father was Pedro
Olague. His mother was Rafaela Tinajero (born about 1838 in Jerez or
Tepetongo and died in Brush Colorado on April 14, 1941). Pedro and
Rafaela were married in Tepetongo on March 21, 1863. Pedro's father
was Santiago Olague and his mother was Eduviges Suriano. Rafaela's
father was Hilario Tinajero and her mother was Teodosia Flores.
Gorgonia's father was Ignacio Garcia and her mother was Maria
Guadalupe Rodriguez.

Juarez), but I recently traced one line back to Nochistlan and
Mexticacan in Jalisco.
My g-g-g-g grand-parents were Jose Andres Felix Yanez and Paula
Josefa Lopez of la Hacienda de los Delgadillos en el Pueblo de
Nochistlan. Their son Jose Pablo Nanes (born at that Hacienda in
Nochistlan around 1788) married Ma. del Carmen Ramona Membrila in
Juarez on April 27, 1822. Andres and Paula had other children born
in Mexticacan.
