Francisco Suárez de Ibarra, Miguel de Ibarra y Pimentel y Francisco Xavier de Ibarra y Zúñiga VIzcaíno

Francisco Suárez de Ibarra (1598-1687), Alférez Real de Guadalajara, married Isabel de Pimentel; they had, among other children, two sons, Miguel de Ibarra y Pimentel (born 1631), who married Agustina Zúñiga y Vizcaíno and Juan de Ibarra y Pimentel (1640-1718), who married Teresa de Sabalsa).

Miguel de Ibarra y Pimentel and Agustina Zúñiga y Vizcaíno – daughter of Nicolás de Vizcaíno, a grandchild of explorer Sabastián Vizcaíno (1548-1624) – had, among other children – two daughters, Damiana and María de Ibarra y Zúñiga, and a son, Francisco Xavier de Ibarra y Zúñiga (born 1678). Damiana remained single, but María married Joaquín Hernández.

On the other hand, a Francisco Xavier de Ibarra (maybe the son of Miguel de Ibarra and Agustina Zúñiga) married Lorenza de la Plaza around 1700, and settled down in Ixtlán del Río, which today belongs to the state of Nayarit. Francisco Xavier and Lorenza are my ancestors and I have some reasons to believe that my ancestor and the son of Miguel de Ibarra and Agustina Zúñiga are the same person:

1. Damiana de Ibarra (probably the daughter of Miguel and Agustina) was the godmother of Francisco and Lorenza’s daughter Margarita Marcela in 1710.
2. Don Juan de Ibarra y Pimentel (Miguel’s brother) and his wife Theresa de Sabalsa were the godparents of Francisco and Lorenza’s son Nicolás Salvador, in 1714, before don Juan’s death in 1718.
3. In 1740, Nicolás Salvador de Ibarra y de la Plaza (Francisco and Lorenza’s son) and his wife Ana María López were godparents at the wedding of Francisco Hernández Ibarra (a son of María de Ibarra (Miguel and Agustina’s daughter) and Joaquín Hernánde).
Does anybody have a more convincing proof that my ancestor Francisco Xavier de Ibarra and Miguel and Agustina’s son are the same person?. Thank you

https://portalvalparaiso.info/hacienda-de-valparaiso/

Zacoalco Jalisco: Fletes, Tobar, Medrano, Flores

I received the following message from a person applying for membership. Email me directly (Joseph@nuestrosranchos.org) if you are related to the couples mentioned:

Hi. I have two marriage documents from Zacoalco Jalisco. I would happily give them to descendants of the couples. I don’t want to advertise that I have the documents because I don’t want to give them to a dealer or someone who just collects old documents. They are original.
One is the marriage of Yrmeo Fletes and Petra Tobar in 1868 The other is Juan Medrano and Dionisia Flores, also 1868.
My grandfather was from Jalisco and my genealogy is my hobby but I am not related to those couples.
Would you please ask your members if those are anyone’s grandparents? As I said, I want nothing in return. It would just make me very happy to see then go to direct descendants. I know how THRILLED I would be to have an original marriage document of great great great grandparents.

Two civil marriage records of the same couple by the same priest?

In researching the marriage of Francisco Campos and Maria Gonzalez, and I've found some interesting finds. To begin with I've only found their "intent to be married" in the church records for Jalisco:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-KQ9J-6S?i=296&wc=3J81-…

Then I found two entries, one month apart, in the civil marriage records in Jalisco.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33S7-9PJ1-YK9?i=258&wc=MG69…

and

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GPJ1-BMS?i=271&wc=MG69…

Why would there be two entries? And from the same hometown and same priest? I'm told the family was wealthy, hence the "Don" and "Dona" on the marriage intent. I saw nothing regarding a dispensation. I have not seen this before. My spanish is not the best either. Any opinion is welcome.

Gracias,

Marty

Lost ancestor

Hello everyone! I have a question about an ancestor I can't seem to find.

There is this baptism record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:939J-D8BH-P?from=lynx1UIV8&… (last of the left page) where two of my ancestors have a child. I don't quite understand the name, but I think it's "J. Abraham". The problem is that it's the only record I have: no marriage, no death record, nothing. He was born in 1877 in Nochistlán, and the burial records from 1866-1879 are missing, so he might have died very young. However, is there any other possibility, such as maybe he became a priest or something? I have to say, I haven't yet been exhaustive with the death records, since they are a ton. I was wondering, if he became a priest, is there any specific record where I could find about it?

There is also the sort of census the church has from 1899, but the whole family is missing, which also has me wondering and keeps me from seeing if he's still alive by then. All of their children were born in Los González; however, the document with información matrimonial from my direct ancestor says she was from Las Trojes. Anyhow, I checked both towns, as well as all of the towns that surround them, and they're simply not there. I don't think they moved, though, since they didn't appear to have too much money, and just a year after they have another kid in Las Trojes. I am quite puzzled here.

History of other haciendas Valparaiso (Peña Blanca, El Astillero, El Tejujan, others)

Haciendas “nuevas y menores”

Translation needed

Hello,

I was able to locate the attached wedding certificate for my great-grandparents, though it's in Spanish and need help with the translation. Also, I'm searching for their parents, is this sort of information listed on the document and if so, what does it say?

Many thanks! Karen

Wills & Testaments in Colonial Mexico

I am trying to learn how to access the last will & testament of Antonio de Aguayo. Through the LDS Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, I found that this document is in the archives of Guadalajara but access is restricted. I would like to know if anyone has researched Antonio de Aguayo, third son of Martin de Aguayo and Catalina de Ledesma of Portillo, Spain. Antonio de Aguayo came to new Spain in 1525 and served under Nuno de Guzman in the pacification of Nueva Galacia in the early 1540s. He filed a Probenza de Meritos y Servicios in 1572 listing his wife, Juana de Padilla and five un-named children. Because he didn't list the names of the children, I find it difficult to make connections to other Aguayos listed in various publications and records starting in the early decades of the 1600s. Can anyone help bridge this gap?

Determining age of an ancestor

Hello everybody! I have a question regarding which documents are more important to determine the age of an ancestor.

My second great-grandmother, Ramona Pulido González, was baptised on may 13th 1887. In her marriage record, in 1901, they say she is 15 years old, when she was, according to the baptism record, just days from turning 14. This could've been an honest, slight mistake.

However, things get trickier. When my great grandfather was born in 1906, the civil record says she was 26 years old, when she was really 19, and her death record states that she died at 65 in 1950.

My (perhaps novelistic) guess is that since her husband was considerably older (he was 44 at the time of the wedding), they were stretching the numbers (specially the civil registration) so that she wouldn't appear underage with the law (although this was fairly common in these towns and this years). I think I should trust most the baptism record, because it wouldn't make sense trying to explain a seven year old being baptised and passing for a newborn (since the baptism record clearly says "born yesterday"). But I was wondering if I might be overlooking something, or if the other records would be better to determine age.

Also, I don't think there is a chance that I am confusing people; her name matches, as well as the town she was born in (which is very very small and wouldn't leave chance to so many coincidences), her husband's name and parents as well as her own parents, and my great grandafthers birthday as told by my mom, who knew him.

Thanks in advance!! :)

Spanish Law 1770 in Mexico

Spanish Law or Custom 1770
What was the Spanish law or custom about 1770 in Durango, Durango surrounding this event? Pablo Lucio Padilla married Maria Gertrudis Godoy. He was a free mulato, she a mulata slave belonging to someone else. Did Pablo have to buy her? Did she remain the slave of the 3rd party? In giving consent for the marriage would her freedom also have been included without comment in the church record? Would their children be free?, or slaves of the 3rd party owner?
Thanks. Ed Nissen Padilla

Victoria Ballin

Does anyone have any info on Victoria Vallin/Ballin she married Juan Sanchez Salgado on 25 Oct 1726 unfortunately their marriage record did not provide me with their parents. So if anyone has any info or can help please feel free to do so.

Looking for origins of Rafael Duran

Hola parientes, I am currently stuck. I am looking for any baptismal records for Rafael Duran. Rafael is my 4th great-grandfather. I found his matrimonial record of his marriage to Dolores Aguilera on the 23rd of February 1800: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-DY3Q-FJS?i=264&cc=1502…

I'm stuck because the record states "padres no conocidos" so his parents are not listed. With Dolores he goes on to have many children born in Calvillo, Aguascalientes. Does anyone have any potential leads I can follow? My hunch is he was born some time around 1775-1777. I've search in Zacatecas, Aguascalientes and Jalisco. The closest I've found is Josef Rafael Duran baptized in Teocaltiche, Jalisco in 1777: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:9392-GR6G-6?i=368&cc=1874591

Thank you,

Ernesto Duran

AGUASCALIENTES: Francisco Gutierrez Duron, Elena de Alvarado, Beatriz Rodriguez de la Vera

Hola prim@s,

I hope you and your loved ones are all safe and well during these trying times!

“Gutierrez Duron” was a compound surname first appearing in Aguascalientes during the latter half of the 17th Century. While earlier generations also alternated using the sole “Gutierrez” or “Duron,” later generations would drop “Gutierrez,” using only “Duron.” Most of those using this surname combination can be traced back to one of two families: that of Juan Gutierrez Duron cc Teresa del Castillo, and that of Francisco Gutierrez Duron, who married twice - first, to Elena de Alvarado, and then to Beatriz Rodriguez de la Vera. There was also a Maria Gutierrez Duron, who married Joseph Guerra, and who was a contemporary of the other two, though her descendants never used the Gutierrez Duron surname. As far as I can tell, there was no contact between these three families, so I don’t know if they were related.
Since I descend from Francisco Gutierrez Duron, I thought I’d start a thread on him and and his two wives, for those of us who descend from them to share what we have. Their children and descendants have been touched upon in previous NR threads:
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23281
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23498
http://www.nuestrosranchos.org/node/23766

I’ll first include what I have on the family groups of Francisco Duron’s two marriages, followed by my notes on his and his two wive’s possible origins. I’ll then include my notes on the other families who used this surname, who might or might not be related.

I hope you find this useful, and if any of you can add or amend anything, please do. By the way, be prepared for a long read - being SiP for almost 2 months, I’ve had a lot of free time on my hands!

Francisco Gutierrez Duron: Marriages & Issue

Francisco Gutierrez Duron and Elena de Alvarado married around 1677. Elena de Alvarado died and was buried 8 Sep 1687, in Aguascalientes. Their last son, Joseph, was baptized almost 2 months after her burial, so she likely died during childbirth.

The children of Francisco Gutierrez Duron and Elena de Alvarado are:

Multiple burial records for the same person within a few years

I have noticed a a few instances, at least 5 so far, where a person has two burial records within a few years. This in Nochistlan with the first burial records occurring in the mid 1780s.

One example is below of Maria Duran widow of Lucas de Aguirre.

Why is this occurring?
