I have family connections named Sandoval from

My name is Lorenzo Cuesta. I was born and raised in Southern Texas (Laredo), but for the past 30 years I have lived in Sacramento, California. I have done most of my research through the Family History Center films and their website databases. Though the Cuesta side of my family came from Real del Catorce, SLP and Monterrrey N.L., most of my ancestors come from the Zacatecas and Jalisco area. I am researching the following surnames from Nochistlan, Zacatecas: Ortiz, Cajero, Donlucas, Borroel, and Luis. To a lesser degree, I also have ancestors from Nochistlan with the following surnames: Valencia, Santillan, Sanchez, Quirarte, Sandoval, Pedroza, and Martinez. Some of these ancestores come from the surrounding areas: Tepechitlan, Zac; Duranes, Zac; Ayo El Chico, Jal; and Yahualica, Jal. Most of the family group information that I have compiled, can be accessed from my rootsweb pages: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cuesta/cuestach2.html I look

Have you discovered why this was done? I recall my
mother being shocked that her Concuna (she & my aunt are married to brothers) bathed her only daughter in cold water, so that she would learn the "hard" life of a woman. I'm glad that my mother didn't agree with this treatment or child abuse. I wonder if this is the reason your ancestors did this? By the way, my tia is descended from the Martin del Campos. Irma

Evie, Ameca in Jalisco and Amecameca in Estado de Mexico are 2 very different locations. Most likely, you should be looking for Ameca, Jalisco. The names, though similar, represent to different places in 2 different states. I've added some links to Universities in Jalisco (mostly), Zacatecas

have a look in the links under "Universities." joseph

no list but if you go to the files you will find the members genealogies
and under the description you will see the major locations and surnames.
. .I would concentrated on the locations. Not a whole lot there from
Valparaiso, but there are at least two other members of the group
researching the area.
thanks, joseph
ps: I used to live in Northern Baltimore County for 18 years before
moving to NC in 1998. I know what you're going through weather wise.

Is there a master Surname list for the Ranchos group? Or a master Place-name list? As I am fairly new to this group I haven't figured out all the ins-and-outs of getting through all the information, so don't know if I have overlooked that bit of information. Thank you all for your inspiring hard work. I have ordered film - and if it stops snowing I'll go over to the local FHC to review them (the film came in this week, it snowed Thurs., so they were closed Thurs.& Fri - bummer). FYI: it is film #1164736 -

Hi Carol,
Check out Steven's posting of the Martin del Campo Family. Your
Campos might tie in. I still need to work more on my Alvarez-Tostado. I just know they lived in the Jalostotitlan/San Juan de los Lagos area. Irma

Nice to hear from you. I am pretty ignorant of
Mexico and it's "towns", or "ranchos', as they call them? But the areas I know of are Momax, Tlaltenango, Totoletiche(sp?) in Zacatecas. In Jalisco, I am not sure, but have been told that the "ranchos" border the states of Zacatecas and Jalisco. One of these is an area called "El Refugio". Also, the "Alvarez" ancestors list is pretty
large and encompasses many surnames. The strongest is "Campos". I will be posting my genealogy as it is to this group and hopefully will find some connections. The two names you mentioned are not |

This sounds like the couple needed a dispensation to marry. This
stuff is right up my alley, so to speak. I am rather familiar with marriage dispensations, where both the bride and the groom were related to one another. If indeed there was a dispensa, then it will be archived in the Sagrada
Mitra de Guadalajara, and all of them have been microfilmed, but none extracted into the IGI. These are part of the Archdiocese of Guadalajara microfilms. I have |

In reading the microfilms of marriage
records for Nochistlán, Zacatecas, I was disappointed to find that there are no parents identified for the bride and groom for the first third of the 18th century (till about 1733) nor for much of the year 1752. Since they had to prove their
relationship was distant enough, I'm assuming that information was recorded elsewhere. Can someone suggest where I should look. All my lines end at Film # 0226725
unless I have found them in Genealogía de Nochistlán Antiguo Reino de la Nueva Galicia en el Siglo XVII según sus Archivos Parroquiales by José Luis Vázquez y Rodríguez de Frías, which I value highly but which is a secondary source. (By the
way, I am not traveling to Nochistlán in the spring. I am quite disappointed, but am hoping that I can go next year.) ~Deena

Hi Peggy, It appears to be so. Such is the case of those films from Valparaiso that started this discussion. What you can do is go to the Family History Library Catalog and do a Place Search http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHLC/frameset_fhlc.asp Then select the place out of the list; in the place details select the topic of your interest, for example, Church records. Then in topic details select one of the titles. Finaly, in the title details click the upper right button "View Film Details". There you will see all the films that are available for the locality of your choice, whether they are in the IGI or not. Hope this helps!
