"Hello, I'm researching the families of my grandparents Placido SERNA Vargas & Clemencia RUBALCABA who I believe at least my grandfather lived at Rancho El Ocote, AGS. My father was partially raised there. I remember hearing we had a lot of family in San Luis Potosi, and at Presa de los Serna, Zacatecas, Mexico. A cousin of mine visited Presa De Los Serna & took video of the Serna family there. I do not know their connection in lineage as of yet. My SERNA Lineage far as I can find in search records thru baptisms & Marriage records in Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco so far are;

1. PLACIDO SERNA christened on 12 October 1886 at La Santísima Trinidad, Villa Hidalgo,Jalisco, Mexico. Placido married my grandmother Clemencia Rubalacava (Rubalcaba) somewhere in Mexico.
I never met any grandparents on my father’s side. I can't find any other info. on Clemencia Rubalcaba Serna besides family search records for the census in 1930 where the family resided in a mining town in Arizona & where she passed per death record registered in Arizona State Board of Health state file No. 451 registered in Ray Pinal Sonora, Arizona United States on 03/14/1931. . According to those records she was born in Mexico 1893 and immigrated 1910 to Arizona. Her parents were Nestor Rubalcaba and Anselma Rubalcaba. I would like to find where CLEMENCIA RUBALCABA came from and who her family was.
Placido's parents’were;

2. PABLO SERNA b.Abt.1859 & MARIA DE LA ASCENSION VARGAS Ruiz. They married on 25 Nov 1881 at La Santisima Trinidad, Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, Mexico according to parish Records. She was born 15 August 1865 & was christened 16 August 1865 at LA SANTISIMA TRINIDAD, VILLA HIDALGO, JALISCO, MEXICO. Asuncion's Parents ANTONIO VARGAS & NESTORA RUIZ GALLARDO were also married there 23 Jan 1864 at La Santisima Trinidad, Villa Hidalgo,Jalisco. Pablo & Asuncion had at least 3 children. PLACIDO b.Abt.12 Oct 1886, Murcio christened 18 May 1889,& Siriaca(Ciriaca)Serna Christened 19 Jun 1890 all at La Santísima Trinidad, Villa Hidalgo. I am still researching the siblings (&families)of Placido. I do not know if any of them ever married or came to the U.S. to PABLO SERNA'S parents were;

3. JOSE TIBURCIO SERNA RUBALCAVA was Christened Abt. 15 AUG 1830 La Santisima Trinidad,Villa Hidalgo,Jalisco,Mexico. He was married 30 Jan 1851 to FELIPA MONTOLLA(Montoya).

I have been doing arbitration for Durango. I do know that is not one of our
States, however I wanted to share what I have found out which may not be
news to many people. Family Search does not have a Header for Confirmations
and these are being indexed as baptisms. I called Family Search in SLC to
ask why this was being done and that I felt this would cause duplication of
birth records once the actual baptisms were extracted. I told them the
confirmations are not done the day of baptism but are done a month, or
months or even years later. They were going to bring it up to whoever does
the computer setups.

I think some people may get confused when they see two records for baptism
for the same child. SLC may or may not make changes but I thought this
might be something you can share with the group so that they might keep in
mind to double check and read those records. Maybe it's just me but I would
feel better if they added that header for confirmations.

Do you see a possible potential problem with people trying to decide which
is the correct date when they end up with two records?

Does anyone have information on Anastasia De Leon? She married Salvador Lopez. They had a son Jose Manuel Lopez who was born about 1770 in Jalisco.

Jose Manuel Lopez married Maria Del Carmen Villasenor. she was born in 4 January 1774, in Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico. it appears that they had their first child Maria Simona Lopez Villasenor, who was born on 24 February 1798, Ayo el Chico, Ayotlan, Jalisco, Mexico. She had other siblings born in Ayo el Chico. For the most part, the Villasenor line was in Arandas, Ayo el Chico, Jalisco, and Aguacalientes.

Hi, my name if Francisco Escobar. I hit a brick wall with my earliest ancestor, Felipe Escovar or Escobar who married Maria Guadalupe Ramires or Ramirez. I obtained their names from a Marriage Information Record for their son Bruno Escobar, who was married in the state of Michoacan.

I was able to find a sister to Bruno. Her name was Maria Paula Escobar Ramires or Ramirez. She was baptized in 3 February 1805, Atotonilco El Alto, Jalisco, Mexico. She was born on 24 January 1805, San Juanico, Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico. For those who are interested, she later married, and for some reason, her name changed by the record keeper who wrote her information in her marriage 24 MAY 1827, Santiago Apostol,Numaran,Michoacan. He wrote Maria Petra Escobar. He got her parents name correctly.

My 85 year old father said that based on Maria's date of birth, she was born in the month where there are two catholic patron saints which are celebrated, Saint Peter where Petra is the feminine form of the name Peter, and Saint Paul where the Paula is the feminine form of Paul.

I am certain that they had other siblings, most likely were born in Jalisco.

I also have Hilario Zarate who married Maria de Jesus Garnica, around 1833. I am not sure if they were married in Guanajuato, Michoacan, or in Jalisco, like most of my ancestors once lived in Jalisco, before migrating to Guanajuato, Michoacan and the USA.

My name is Donna Gonzalez. Never wrote on a forum before so here goes, my apologies if it's not standard. :) A bit of background on me, I'm a adjunct graphic design instructor who also has worked in the archival department of a local museum doing art history research for a collection of 500 old photographs. I love digging in and about studying the past. I can do iconography and enjoy it. (to ad nauseum) Weird, I know, but it helped me fill in missing parts to that photo collection and I was able to craft the story the photographs told and about the photographer himself.

I have done some research of my family history and was always intrigued and wanted to know more about my Mexican grandmother's family. I only knew what was orally past down to me from my grandmother, who is deceased now. She didn't have many dates and some locations were too general. I've already did some research on both my maternal and paternal grandparent's but have gotten stuck, I can't seem to go back any farther on either side of my grandmother's grandparents side. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction?

Here is a short summary of what's in that link above:

My grandfather Alfredo Enriques Mercado born in 1896 in Tepetongo, married Amelia Acevedo in January 1913. He was the eldest of 12 children, she the youngest of 3.

They traveled from Mexico, to Illinois to Detroit in the early part of the century (1900s) by following the railroads. They had 9 children, 6 deceased 3 living.

My grandfather's parents were Benito Mercado and Longinia Enriques and my grandmother's parents were Marquez Acevedo and Guadalupe (don't have her maiden name)and I have no dates, so I'm thinking maybe both sets were born around 1840's and married around 1860's.

Does anyone have the birth, marriage, parental info on Pedro Pablo de Herrera and Maria de la Roza Robles? I've traced two of my lines back to the same couple and have hit a dead end.

One line is Manuel Ygnacio de Herrera, b: abt 1732 Tlaltenango and the other line is his brother Marcelino, b: abt 1740 Tlaltenango.

I did a search here and did see some previous communication on this couple, but no further info was provided.

I would also like to hear from all of you that share this line as I am compiling a list of cousins I've discovered here.

Yeah, the man found the death record of Mercedes and it list her parents as Antonio Medina and Felicitas Magana. I looked them up on family search but I did not found any baptisms or marriage of them.

I looked for both Fernando (1910) and Prodigios(1903) in the baptisms for Quer?ndaro and Zinap?cuaro. I also looked in the civil birth registry for Zinap?cuaro because at that time that is where Quer?ndaro registered their children. I did not find anything. Do you have any more info on Mercedes? Sometimes they would baptize children in the mother's home town especially if it was fairly close to where the family lived.

R1b M269 because Geno 2.0 tests for SNP markers that FamilyTreeDNA doesn't
test for. Since the majority of Mexican and Iberian R1b belongs to M269 and
about 80% belong P312 and DF27 and below on the R1b phylogenetic tree this
test is highly recommended to discover if you are one of them, and if so,
where you belong on the tree.

I've recently discovered that the marriage record of Maria de la
Encarnacion Quesada and Julio Joseph Robalcaba, dated Feb 14, 1770 in
Nochistlan, incorrectly identifies her parents as Manuel Aguirre and
Gertudis Ximenes. The dispensation (1770, 1773 FHL Source Film 168044 -
Mexico Genealogy, Images 92-97, (thank you Claudia et al)) identifies the
parents as Joseph Manuel Quesada and Maria Magdalina Lopez( Lizaldi).

Okay I am helping this elderly man with his family research. He already
has done research and and has gone as far back as the early 1800s in
most of his tree. He part of his ancestors come from Aguascalientes.
However, the part I want your help is with his fathers side which comes
from Michoacan. Arturo ( the guys name) lives in Texas and his great
grandparents immigrated to the U.S. His fathers name is Fernando de Leon and according to his death certificate his birthday was May 12, 1910 he past away on July 8, 1996. The parents of Fernando Bartolo de Leon and
Mercedes Medina. They also had another son named Prodigios who according to his death certificate his birthday was February 13, 1903. Bartolo
was in cuba and arrived to Florida on August 17, 1915. According to
Arturo's birth certificate the face of birth of his father (Fernando) is Michoacan
Michoacan and in his brothers first certificate it list the face of
first of his father as Queretaro Michoacan. As far as we are aware there is no town with the name of queretaro in Michoacan so he things that
they probably meant Querendaro Michoacan. I was hoping that maybe I
could get people to help me look at the baptisms from around Fernando's
and his brothers birth from Michoacan and hope to find them. Or do you
guys have a better idea to find Bartolo's parents? I know this is
regarding Michoacan and not one of the three states you guys are focus
on but I'm hoping you guys can help me or know someone who can. Thank

My mother, Patricia Barrymore (Garcia Delgado) and I joined the group a month ago and have been grateful for the information we have come across this site. We are researching the Delgado line from Zacatecas and Aguascalientes. We have hit a brick wall so far with Diego Delgado who married Ysabel Martinez Lozano on Feb. 22, 1637 in Aguascalientes. We have not been able to go back farther than this date. His son, Francisco Delgado had a son, Bartholome Delgado, who had Juan Manuel Delgado, who was the father of Juan Joseph Delgado. As far as we know, Juan Joseph left the region on his own in 1756 to settle in Revilla, Tamaulipas as a servant. Prior to this, the family was well to do so we are also investigating the family circumstances at the time. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Jose Lopez, have you looked for this man on the LDS FamilySearch website?  They have helpful volunteers in many towns of the USA who can help with genealogical research online.  They have a HUGE database, worldwide.
 
If his birth was Queretaro Michoacan, perhaps that meant Queretaro OR Michoacan. 
Try looking in Queretaro State, Old Mexico.

Help in Zacoalco de Torres

I am tracing my ancestry back in Zacoalco de Torres through the 1800s and I
got stuck on my great-great-great-grandparents. Here is what I have:

Jose Santos Reynaga b. Abt 1864 m. Cristina Frias b. Abt. 1864
-Maria Concepcion Reynaga b. 21 May 1884, Zacoalco m. Crispiniano Toribio
b. Abt 1871, Zacoalco
+Victoria Toribio Reynaga de Ruiz b. 5 Sep1904, Zacoalco
+Jose Alfonso Toribio Reynaga b. 14 Aug 1906, Zacoalco

I need to find parents for both Jose Santos Reynaga and Cristina Frias. I
can't find any record of their births or marriage. I've searched many
volumes of records from Zacoalco. I do not know if they were born in
Zacoalco. I checked the hijos naturales, as well, and still had no luck.
There are a few other people across Mexico with similar names, but I am
just lost on how to find the next generation back. I estimated their DOB
based on their child's DOB.

Also, I can't find a birth or baptism record for Maria Concepcion Reynaga.
I found her DOB on her immigration record when she came up to California to
visit her daughter Victoria. She lived in Tijuana for a time with Jose
Alfonso.

Do any of you have these people in your tree? Can you help me find their
records?

The book "The North Frontier of New Spain" has caught my attention of late. I have heard good things about it, but seeing the price tag ($90, used hardcover) makes me consider whether to purchase or to read within a local library. Before making my decision, I need to know exactly what type of information is in the book. I especially need to know the level of detail with which the southeast outskirts of Nueva Galicia are covered. Suggestions on buying or reading are also appreciated.
