Hello my name is Maria and I am new to the program.

I have a question. I am searching for my great great grand parent from which I think they were born in Matansas Jalisco which they would be registered in Ojuelos De Jalsico. I think my great great grandparents were born around 1888 their names are as follow.

Jose Refugio Cortez –married to Alejandra Hernandez--------- Son was Antonio Cortez Hernandez born in 1909 who is my grandfather

Lorenzo Alvarado---married to Francisca Ortiz ----------- Daughter was Ma Manuela Alvarado Ortiz which was my grandmother

If any names sound familiar....please let me know. Also I have reasearch the Ojuelos films and the earliest films are from 1879 wondering if there are any from 1888 to current.

Welester was kind enough to send me a disk with batch numbers for Mexico
via Esther Herold (thanks everyone). Note that the batch number that
have ** next to them are probably not going to work. Does anyone know
why these don't work and what happened to those batch numbers. Seems
that if they were existent at one time they still might be available
some place. Possibly on an older pre 1988 version of the IGI. Is that
only to be found on Fiche somewhere or is it no existent? The fiche
found in todays FHC what is the date of the IGI? I've been told but I
can't remember right now.

You can order the microfilm, 0299830 which is the marriages for 1772-1777
for Aguascalientes. Through your local Family History Center. It does have
the marriage entry for ANTONIO BUENA VENTURA DE CUELLAR & JOSSEFA MARCELA
GONZALES.

which date would you post in your records for a marriage, the civil record if it appears dated first or the church date if you have it? I've been told that parents did not consider their children married until it was done in the church and they were not allowed to live together until the church marriage. I would imagine there were couples who could not marry in the church but could have a civil marriage. What have other members of the group found?

I noticed a few of us with roots in Teocaltiche, Jalisco. I visited Teocaltiche in 1998. I visited with the local cronista, Senor Rameriz, the uncle of author Nicolas De anda Sanchez.

I have been going through the IGI and ordering films, but having a difficult time getting pass my great-grandfather Mauro Rodriguez.

I have used tips offered by a member to search for siblings on rolls. This has worked.

In the book on Teocaltiche my family is mentioned in the talaberteros section. I know from the past some of you worked with the author. --Nicolas De Anda Sanchez. I know he must be getting on in years. I would like to get my information to the author since conventional search tools not working. Since he gound it noteworthy to add my family to the book I thought it would be of interest to him to know about the descendants. Perhaps he has source information of value for my historical benefit.

Most importantly, I would love to share family backgrounds andi mmigration pattern to USA. Maybe some links?

I am having trouble finding "oclave del Reloj" on any map. Does anyone have a historical map of DF. Quite possible this was located behind la Cathedral in front of Teatro Alarcon (or so I was told).

Also what does que in extremis or fue in extremis means.

And while on the subject of maps, I am looking for Callejon del Indio Triste No 59, Zacatecas, Zac, Mx which was the residence of my uncle, Marcelo Gonzalez.

I am wondering if anybody has any ties to the Mora family from Ocotlan. I have Jose Antonio Mora born in Ocotlan 1806. Parents were Rafael Mora and Gertrudis Baca. I found a Jose Rafael Mora born in 1786 in Ocotlan, Jalisco, but I haven't been able to confirm if it's the correct Jose Rafael Mora. I was wondering if any members have any Mora line tying into the southern end of Jalisco. Jose Antonio Mora married Trinidad Villaroel of Atotonilco el alto, Jalisco in 1826 in Ocotlan. Please if anyone has any information would they reply it would be greatly appreciated.

Hola compañeros, desde hace varios días que se encuentra en el foro discuciones e información sobre personas de apellido Quezada; y hoy me di a la tarea de buscar a todas las personas Quezada que tengo en mi base de datos y que no les he podido seguir la línea.

Me gustaría saber si alguno de ustedes tiene mas datos de los siguientes Quezada:

1.- Lorenzo Quezada, cónyuge de Felipa Ortiz, vecinos de San Juan de los Lagos, aprox. en 1695.
2.- Diego Manuel Quezada, quien casó el 01 de enero de 1766 en Cuquío, con María Segunda García.
3.- Leonarda Quezada, esposa de José del Refugio Alvarado, vecinos de Acatic, Jalisco aprox. en 1920.

I just learned the www.familytreedna.com has a December sale on at least some of their test kits when purchased through one of the projects (you can generally fit yourself into one of the posted projects. There is a Mexican Surname Project and lots of specific surname and geographic projects.) The Y-DNA37w/ mtDNAPlus kit is $199 (I paid over $300), and the Y-67DNAw/mtDNAPlus kit is $308. I don't know what the latter one was before, but that represents a good savings. I only wish I had known about their apparently traditional December-only sales.
I have been very satisfied with the results and the availability of knowledgeable people to answer questions. So far my results indicate a European haplogroup for my Ruiz line (R1b1b2a1a), and 3 Native American lines (Q and mtdna haplogroups B and C).
So if you have thought about having it done, you may want to take advantage of the sale. (Who knew they would have a "sale"?)

Some last names vascillate as it was the custom for women to sometimes use their grandmothers last names.  Truncation of last names also occured;such as the name of "Casillas" as is the "de la torre" family from los Altos de Jalisco...they would originally be "Casillas de la Torre", or synthisis like Gonzalez, de Hermosillo becomes Gonzalez de Hermosillo. Or Cabrera becomes "y Cabrera" or "de Cabrera."

Ayer tuve tiempo de leer los cuatro cuentos de la región de Jalisco, en los que indiscutiblemente se nota la influencia europea, lo que es lógico tratandose de Jalisco pues como todos sabemos es uno de los estados en el que se ha tratado de conservar la cultura y tradiciones españolas y de otros paises de Europa hasta nuestros días. Siendo mis antepasados maternos de Jalisco, he tenido la oportnidad de comparar las costumbres, tradiciones, literatura y hasta superticiones de decendientes de europeos y de indigenas, pues mis ascendientes paternos, aunque mestizos se consideran con orgullo de sangre azteca.

Por lo que quisiera dar a conocer un librito de relatos tradicionales de Milpa Alta, lugar de nacimiento de mi padre, quien gustaba de relatar tanto leyendas de su pueblo, como pasajes de su interesante vida, sobre todo sus recuerdos de niñez en tiempos de la Revolución Mexicana. El titulo del libro al que me refiero es "Frente al Tlecuil" y es una recopilación de leyendas y cuentos pasados oralmente de generación en generación al rededor del fogón (Tlecuil) que era en donde se sentaban a comer y a platicar. En la mayoría de los relatos puede uno vislumbrar costumbres y creencias muy antiguas como las ofrendas del Dia de Muertos, La Tienda de Raya, etc.

Curiosamente éste librito, incluye una leyenda que con pequeñas variantes he leido en un libro de cuentos de Los Altos de Jalisco. En Milpa Alta la leyenda se llama "La Bruja y su Esposo" que cuenta de una esposa asendosa que de noche cuando el esposo duerme, deja los zapatos frente al rescoldo y se va volando convertida en bruja, la versión de los Altos de Jalisco es básicamente lo mismo, sólo que la esposa se saca los ojos y los esconde entre las cenizas del rescoldo. Para mí la diferencia entre las dos leyendas demuestra la intuición sagaz de los indigenas. Para volar no necesita zapatos, pero como lo puede hacer sin ojos?. Desgracidamente no encontré el libro de los Altos en mi desordenada biblioteca, pero en cuanto lo encuentre les envío el nombre, pues está muy interesante, o tal vez alguno de Uds. lo conozca.

I've just updated my file on Rootsweb.com. Most of the research in for the district of Jerez Zacatecas but there is also research from Tamazula and Zapotlan El Grande/Ciudad Gusman Jalisco and then to Michoacan in the 1780's and earlier. The file is too large to post on Nuestros since there are abt 59,000 names. I hope there is something of interest there for many of you researching those areas.

If you put in Rito Castanon and go to the one born in 1919 and then go to pedigree in text form it will give you my genealogy or you can go to index and it will show you the surnames in my files. If you find errors I would appreciate you letting me know so I can make corrections.
