tomas villalobos-olivar

Thanks Letricia, I will look in the 1930 Mexico census for relatives. I am not having much luck making the right connections with either of my family lines ( Villalobos or Olivars) maybe I am looking in the wrong place. And Thanks to all of you who have sent info earlier. Soory I am so bad with the computer. Cecilia

Agreed

I agree with you Claudia.  Oral history is important and can be an absolute genealogical goldmine of information.  Without the little "leads" that my grandparents gave me I'm not sure I would have done as well as I have in my search.  While the search of my Spanish/French/Mexican roots on my grandfather's side has been slow going I've gained so many new cousins on my U.S. born "southerner" grandmother's side.  After I traced it backwards - and the oral history proved to be a checking point for the records I pulled - to the 1500s I then traced it forward and found lots of new cousins...Cousins I have been able to share photographs both old family photos from the 1800s & 1900s and current ones.  It was imazing to be able to see a photograph of my grandmother's great grandmother! And to find grandchildren, great grandchildren & great great grandchildren of my grandmother's long lost aunt.  Oral histoy is what ignited my search and helped send me
in the right direction when faced with multiple people of the same name.  Occasionally I have chosen wrong - but those few occasions have been minor in comparison to all the right choices I have made.  But I think many of us recognize that Oral History is very different from Urban Legend and I think that is what we are truly discussing.  Urban Legend can usually be proved as false by simple fact checking and when we have checked those facts and they have come up empty we need to have respect as Historians and Genealogists no matter how amateur and let the Urban Legends go by the wayside without feeling the need to argue over unargueable facts.  I think more unites us than separates us.  We are the ones that carry our family's history & stories into the next generation!

Yes, I agree with everyone here that oral history should never be discounted nor discouraged.  My post started as a comment in response to a claim that has long been disproved, and I digressed to share my personal opinion on another matter.  My apologies if I came off as uncouth or unfriendly.

Some of you may know or have heard of the famous Sisters ( Nuns ) who are the caretakers of just about all the really old books from the state of Nuevo Leon , Mexico .
Cities or publos like Monterrey, Cadereyta , Villa de Santiago , etc. etc.

There are two sisters who will greet you and eagle eye you to make sure that you do not mis treat or mis handle the books , which are in very poor condition to begin with .

Well , here goes the help part ( sorry for dragging this out ) :

Hermana Rosario Urzva Lopez is from Jalisco and would like to start her genealogy ( believe it or not ) .
She's so busy helping others with their roots here in Monterrey that she doesn't have time to work on her family line .

Urzva and Lopez . Any assistance will be greatly appreciated .

Wishful thinking Vs. Reality

I glanced at the entries regarding the whole Thomas Edison debate and I couldn't go to bed without imparting my two cents.

I think that in this day and age--and with the information available to us--we must stop perpetrating unproved myths and folklore. At the very minimum for the sake of the credibility of our own hard work and efforts in researching our past.

Isn't it amazing that with a few minutes of Internet time, Emilie was able to debunk what may have been a story repeated for possibly decades? Thank you Emilie for taking the time to set matters straight!

I am verbalizing what I am sure some of you feel when reading posts about so-and-so being related to someone powerful and famous. Someone who may have been the illegitimate child of Royalty... or whose G-G-G-G-Grandfather owned the entire Pueblo of XYZ.

Let's get real. Most of us doing research in this area (Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes) descend from immigrants to the New World who came from Europe out of their need for a better life. An opportunity to improve what they abandoned back home. Not Discounting the mixture of indigenous folks, of course. The facts are that the vast majority of our ancestors were immigrants who labored and toiled the lands to sustain themselves and (at least in my case) left a legacy of hard work ethic, family values and self respect -- no matter your station in life.

Why can't we be satisfied with owning our own legacy as it is? The legacies that our (proven) blood relatives left us without wishing and hoping that we carry the blood of someone we deem (in our short-sightedness) "more important" than the people in our Genfiles?

Just a rant. Forgive me if I ruffled some feathers.

Chumasero - Does anyone have any information on this last name?

I can't seem to find anyone alive with this last name. This was my
greatgrandmother's maiden name.

Thanks

Macias / Macías in Jalisco

Hello everyone, my name is José Luis Macías and I am looking for relatives, lots of them! I am drawn to this website, probably for the same reason you all are; I am trying to find out where I come from and in the process bridge the gap between the Macias' that are scattered out there. I’m just starting out on my investigation and so far my attempts to locate family or find out more about my past have been unsuccessful, so all advice is very welcome! I am trying to get a hold of my grandparent’s birth and marriage certificates which means that soon I will have more accurate information to post. For now, this is what I have. Should we find we have common ancestors, I will be more than happy to share more information regarding recent generations. Thank you all for reading; I hope you have something to share.

Descendants of Macias in Jalisco, México

## Generation No. 1

1. ¿? Macías was born around 1886 in Tenamaxtlán Jalisco. He married my GG Grandmother ?? Lucas probably around 1900-1906. She was probably born sometime around 1886.

Children of ¿? MACIAS (GG Grandfather) and ¿? LUCAS (GG Grandmother) are:

i. Francisco Macias Lucas b. Abt 8 Sep 1909, Tenamaxltán, Jalisco, México, d.
Unkown
ii. Basilio Macias Lucas b. Abt 1902-1916, Tenamaxltán, Jalisco, México, d.
Unknown

Notes: Given names of my GG grandparents are unknown. It is uncertain if they had more children (most likely they did, as is usually the case with these “Breeding Stallions” – Abuelo el Sementa!). Based on the accounts of family members, it is possible that one of my GG grandparents had another son named Agustin which is a half brother of the 2 previously mentioned brothers (Francisco and Basilio).

## Generation No. 2

2. Great Grandfather Francisco Macias Lucas (b. Abt 8 Sep 1909, Tenamaxltán, Jalisco, México, d. Abt unknown). He maried Maria Gomez Sanchez (b. 3 Aug 1908) in San Luis Potosí México. The month and day form the birth dates of my Grand Parents are accurate, but the birth year is an approximation. From the accounts of my grand parents I know that my Great Grandfather married when he was 16 years of age, and my Great Grandmother at 15. Yup, they were young, so what!? And you know what else? Apparently there was no money for TV and the tractor was probably broken down leaving them with ample time to propagate (8 children!).

Thomas Alba Edison

Hello to all the primos de nuestros ranchos.

In the last weeks a received a lot of help of several of you that help me a lot to increase my trees.

Now I have a new question, My father told me that his grand mother for his mother side, mention to him, that Tomas Alva Edison was son of one of his relative De Alba from the San Juan de los Lagos.
Someone Know something about?

Ma de los Angeles De Alba Jimenez (1852-1940)is the grandmother of my father, she was born in San juan de los Lagos
Her Father was Jose Anacleto de Alba y Perez Franco(b.1826) and her Felicitas del Refugio Jimenez Magdaleno(b.1834).
Her GrandParents for the father side are Jose Maria Martin De Alba Perez Franco(b.1798) y Ma. Antonia Felipa Perez Franco y Garcia(b.1801).

Best regards
J. Cristobal Villalobos Lomelín.

Amelia

Lester, thanks for responding to my inquiry. Yes, lets stay in touch and
see if we can discover our Alvarado blood line. I'm in the process of
trying to create a family tree so that it will be easier for my fellow
researchers to see who I'm searching for. I'm going next week to go to
my LDS family history center in Hayward, CA to get some help and guidance.
This is so amazing and gratifying at so many levels, that it's almost scary
to discover who came before us. My father has dementia and can't help me
and I can't find records at his house. I'm still trying to contact
friends and other distant relatives with whom I have had little or no
contact. My father was not close with his family. And yes, hopefully
it turns out that we are primos! Please Lester, if you come across any
other Alvarados from our reach areas, ask them to contact me or contact me
OK? Thanks again for your encouragment and good luck to you too!

Question for Daniel Mendez

Hello Daniel! I had been wondering about Quezada surname in your rootsweb database, what was your source? ´Cause it brings out my curiosity that in this, my era, I always knew my last name is Leon, then about three years ago I found out about the Cos or Coss from my research in films, and then and last I met the Quezada added to Coss Y Leon in your data. So, what is the source?

(yeah, remember "what is the matrix?" from the movie) Greetings from Leticia Leon

Fw: RE: The original GARCIA last name is "GARCIA DE ALBA"

Hi, All,
I've been having problems with my e-mail so I'm hoping this time I reach someone.

A few days ago I sent the attached information to Gloria Fuentes and (I thought) to Nuestros Ranchos;  but I have not seen it posted with the rest of the correspondence, and I don't think Gloria got it either;  so I'm re-sending it.  Hopefully this time I have the right   address(es) and it gets posted in the general correspondence.

Hope to hear from someone...

Macias in Jalpa

Amelia, I have the civil records from Jalpa from 1887 - 1895. I am almost
done with them. Where do you live? Perhaps instead of returning them, if you
live close by, LDS will allow me to forward them to a LDS center near you.
For some reason, from 1891 and forward, for the most part, it lists grandparents
names but from 1860 to 1890 it does not. Or, let me know what year you are
looking for and I'll try to find it and forward you a copy.

Mercedes.

What I said was, "I find some of those stories coming from Sombrerete, Zacatecas, and now Lester thinks it came from Coahuila. You say the story came from Lagos in Jalisco".

I didn't say you said Thomas was from Coahuila, just that the story also came from there. The Edison descendant said he wouldn't care if Thomas was born in Mexico if he was, but he knows he wasn't. Why should it be proved otherwise?

Ygnacia de Leon is my 5th Great Grandaunt twice (both of her brothers, Francisco Xavier and Bartholome, are my 5th Great Grandfathers) and she is also my 6th Grandmother (equal to her father, Manuel de Leon, who is also my 6th Grandfather twice via Francisco Xavier and Bartholome, and who is also my 7th Great Grandfather via Ygnacia) !!

Fw: To Juan Cristobal re Encarnacion Families

Juan Cristobal,

I meant to say that my husband's great-grandmother was Marciana Cervantes. I left out a generation there. My husband's grandfather, father of Enrique, was Primitivo Garcia, and his grandmother was Maria Hinojosa.

Juan Cristobal,

Above is a link to my husband's family tree that I have on WorldConnect. There is a Villalobos in there too.

My husband's name is Antonio Carlos Garcia Acosta. His father was Enrique Garcia Hinojosa, and his grandfather was Simon Garcia Ornelas. Simon was also descended from the Morones, Ornelas, Gonzalez, Calzada, Magdaleno, Perez, Villalobos on his father's side.

My husband's grandmother, wife of Simon, was Marciana Cervantes. Her father was Jose Ysac Cervantes, and her mother was Maria Castula Aguirre. Marciana was also descended from de Allon, Rubalcaba, Marin, Martin, Duron, Narvaes, Gonzales, and Chaves.

T. Alva Edison on 1860 census

I found Thomas Alva Edison on the 1860 census for Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan:

Samuel Edison age 55 farmer born in N.Scotia
Nancy age 51 born in N. Y.
Alvah age 13 newsboy born in Ohio

It doesn't seem he was known as Thomas Alva until later in life. Here he is listed only as "Alvah" the first name he used then he was a newsboy in Port Huron, Michigan.
