Not all microfilms have batch numbers. Only the microfilms that have been
extracted. I might also add that in order anyone to search those batches they
have to be in the IGI database (you may also want to search the Vital Records
Index). The easiest way to find a batch number (if it's not in the Nuestros
Ranchos database already) is to search the IGI for a generic name, then see if
any any of the results on the results page are for the town you are researching.
If the entries are from batches, then you will be provided a batch number and
years covered (and from which microfilm the information was extracted from).

Hello All,

There is a batch number listing on microfiche that is called "Parish and Vital Records List". The copy I have has the date July 1998.(I only copied a portion of the film I needed). I believe that is the last time the LDS church put it out before becoming computerized. Before computers the IGI was on Microfiche....and most family history centers keep on file the old fiche.

If you go in and ask for the Parish and Vital Records List don't be surprised if the volunteers don't know what your talking about. Most have only been trained on how to work the computer, help fill out order sheets and the like. Most of them do not know about using the old microfiche or what the library has in stock regarding records....unless that have worked on their genealogy and are familiar with their center.

If you don't find the help you want, start looking in the micro sheet drawers.

The Project is the batch number

Here is an example of what this microfiche has on it.........hope this comes out correctly in this posting

Not all batch numbers are on the IGI, only ones where films were extracted. Above the batch number is J602672, if this does not work try K602672 or C602672. Sometimes early on the sex of the child was seperated by either J or K. Later the church combined them into using C in the beginning of the numbers.

Ignacio Gomez Villarruel y Antonia Gomez Flores, que
se casaron civilmente el 26-Nov-1901, supongo que
el matrimonio Religioso debe estar alrededor de esa
fecha, me interesa mas que nada la INFORMACION
MATRIMONIAL de mis Bisabuelos, ya que siempre
se ha sabido que se casaron siendo Parientes,
pero he preguntado a mi familia y no han sabido
explicarme exactamente como era ese Parentesco
entre mis Bisabuelos, y ese punto debe estar bien
explicado en la Informacion Matrimonial o Dispensa
de Matrimonio por Cosanguinidad, en los registros
Civiles, hasta ahora, yo no he encontrado expicacion
o datos sobre parentescos de cosanguinidad, parece
ser que en los Matrimonios Civiles no es importante
o no se contempla el problema de la Consanguinidad
entre las parejas a casarse.
Por lo que necesito saber la informacion sobre

Mis Bisabuelos Maternos Ignacio Gomez Villarruel y
Antonia Gomez Flores, se casaron en Ocotlan, Jalisco el
21-Nov-1901 en Ocotlan, Jalisco, segun las actas de
Presentacion y Matrimonio Civil que encontre y tengo
en mi poder copias, alli dice que los 2 eran originarios
del Rancho "El Lobo" pero no dice que pertenezca al
Municipio de Ocotlan, aunque yo asi lo supongo, la cosa
es que mis Bisabuelos vivieron casi toda su vida en el
Rancho "Lobo Chico" (Luego le cambiaron el nombre
por Rancho "La Peregrina" y aclaraban en varios
documentos "antes Lobo Chico").
Mi duda es: Que el municipio de Totolan colinda
con el de Ocotlan, y no se si el mencionado Rancho
El Lobo, pertenezca a Ocotlan o a Tototlan, que
alguien me saque de la duda, y me diga exactamente
donde se localiza y si hay algun mapa que pueda
consultar para ver su ubicacion, ya fui a la pagina
del INEGI y no pude encontrar nada.
Yo supongo que "El Lobo" esta en Ocotlan y
que mis bisabuelos fueron a vivia a Tototlan y en
honor y recuerdo del Rancho donde Nacieron le
pusieron al suyo "Lobo Chico", no se donde pudiera

Hello everyone:

I've been a member for about two weeks. In going through some old pictures, I decided to get serious about charting out my family history, and through good ole Google, came across this Web site. In going through old pictures my late parents left me, I also found a typed family history of the paternal side of my family, which is from Ejutla, Jalisco.

A bit of background on me: While my name is Roberto Garcia Michel, that's really my father's surnames. He was a Garcia on his fathers side, and Michel on his mothers. When he immigrated to the US in the early 1950s, they put down his last name as Michel, and his middle as Garcia. I'm proud of my father's accomplishments and his reputation in Illinois where I grew up, so I've kept the Michel name, though my mother's father's name was Flamenco, so in Mexico, I'd be Roberto Garcia Flamenco. (I do like the sound of that name.) For the past four years, I've lived in Wisconsin, right outside of Madison.

So I see from this Web site that people are serious about their research, and I want to start looking up some of film references mentioned, to really document the typed family history my mother handed down to me. I've retyped that family history, and posted via my Create Content function. The Microsoft Word document is called: Genealogías de la familia García Michel.

I believe other members can access this document. I details the family history on both sides of my father (Moises Garcia Michel) back to the 1700s. Names mentioned include Garcia, Michel, Medina, Gonzalez, Covarrubias, Tejeda, and several others. There are many references to dates and a few mentions of "Libros" in which records can be found. I'm going to try to find some of those records. Anyway, this simple text history might be interest to others, so I've posted it.

One initial question I have is whether Ejutla and San Miguel are one in the same. It appears that at one time, Ejutla was called San Miguel, but the name was changed in the late 1800s. I found a Jalisco state government Web site that indicates as much:

I have on loan two films, one for Jesús María, Jal. baptisms 1908-1916, other one for Arandas, Jal. baptisms 1910-1913, I can do a look up glady.

The films listed in the database are all available through the Church of Latter Day Saints and you can order them at any one of their family history centers located throughout the US and the world for a nominal fee of $5.50. Some films are on permanent loan to group members and those who are willing to do ad hoc lookups for other members have listed their names next to the corresponding films.

Many of the films have been indexed by the LDS and those that have will have a button labeled "IGI" for International Genealogical Index or "VRI" for Vital Records Index just after the description and date ranges. If you click on the button, it will take you to familysearch.org where the indexed information is available to search online free of charge.

I would suggest that you (and any other new member) donwload two very important documents that are available in the Files section of the site under Reference Materials:

Thank you so much for all the Romero information. There's a 100 year
gap between your Romero's and what I know about mine. Maybe they
connect somewhere in that 100 years. I copied the information and am
putting it in my Romero file. In the event I connect the two
families through further research, I will let you know. Is there
anything more you would like to know about my Romero family from
Tepatitlan?

children and parents.

Manuel Romero's wedding is in Source 0218457, Batch C603711. I
have a copy but it is very hard to read.

If someone can look these up and either copy them or tell me what
they say, I would be very grateful. I don't speak Spanish, so if
there is a chance that they can be translated, I will be very, very
grateful.

I am trying to find information on the Hacienda de las Gallinas, The Rancho del Peñuelo and the Rancho del Pueblito, all located in Pinos, Zacatecas. How to find out who owned them around 1860-1918.

My ggggrandfather was named Juan Jose Acevedo or (de Asevedo), he had

3 sons, Jose Toribio born @ 1773, Jose Maria born @ 1785, and Bernardo born

about 1787, I found all 3 marriage records for them but could not find their birth

records, it appears they were probably all born in Tepetongo, Zacatecas.

Juan Jose (their father) was married to Maria Manuela de la Vega.

If anyone out there has any information that maybe would help me find out more I

would be very gratedful.

Does anyone have a family line that taps into this one? I am afraid there is not mich info, which is why I came to this site. I hope to find others who have relatives in common and that we can share information. I am not even sure this is the place to post this, but here goes! This is my addition to the database:

My name is John David Robles, and I am the son of J. (for Jose) Jacinto Robles (b. 08/16/1912, Aguascalientes, Ags) and Jane Elizabeth Byles Robles (b. 05/18/1917, Casmalia, CA).
Regarding the boys and girls names, some were named Jose or Maria before their common name, but they were not known by those names, just by their ‘first’ names. The two boys born in Mexico were named Jose and this was followed by the names they were known by to the family – same for the girls, they were all named ‘Maria’ followed by their given name).

My grandparents were Nieves Robles (b. 08/05/1884, Ojo de Agua de Rosales, Ags.) and Panfila Martinez (b.06/01/1889, Hacienda de Los Campos, Ags.).

Nieves Robles father was Marcial Nieves or Marcial Nieves Robles. His mother is unknown. No dates are available for his birth, marriage or death.

Panfila Martinez father was Esteban Martinez, no dates available, and her mother was Juanita, no maiden name known. She left Esteban (or maybe he died 0- I understand he was a very mean indigenous man and tried to drown my grandmother in a washtub once – so Juanita may have left him). Juanita came to the United States before my grandparents came, and she had married a man named Arizmendi, All her children carried the Arizmendi name.

My grandparents came here with their three surviving children during the Mexican Revolution, crossing into the United States on June 7, 1914. My grandfather worked in mines, I don’t know what kind - and they worked their way up gradually, staying in Torreon, Guanajuato for some time. My dad told me that they had to ride on top of train cars because so many people were trying to get out of Mexico. When they arn out of money, they would stop and work for a while, then continue on.

site is in testing mode (about 7,000) users at current time.

You should also be aware that the 1930 Mexican census will be indexed soon too.
It will become an available indexing project on

I was hoping that no one would ask...lol.

A preliminary survey has been done by a colleague of mine, however, they feel
that before it's published (or let me publish it on my blog) they would like to
clean it up. The survey went a little something like this...The "Datos
Preliminares, Sujetos a Rectificacion del Censo General de Havitantes de 1930
por Municipios," on film #0547084 item 11, was consulted then crossed checked
against the GSU's (Genealogical Society of Utah aka Family History Dept. aka
FamilySearch) collection of the census. Many municipios were found to be missing
(about 300 or just over 10% of all muncipios through out Mexico), and when it
was suggested that the GSU go back and pick up the missing municipios they were
told that we had filmed them all.

With that said the GSU filmed the 1930 census from the National Archives...some
states and/or municipios may have copies of the alleged "lost" records. Also,
nearly 20 years have passed since the census was microfilmed by the GSU, which
is plenty of time for the National Archives to dust off old books and discover
other municipios that may have been misplaced in 1987.

So, the short answer to your question: "what do you mean by lost?" Lost or
misplaced by the National Archives. And, to answer Brady's question: both
Torreon, Coahuila and Tlaltenango (listed as just Sanchez Ramon in the list of
municpios in 1930), Zacatecas are on the preliminary "lost" list.

I need help researching a Tomas Xaques(Jaques, Jaquez). He was from Sombrerete , Zacatecas .
He married in 1679 in San Juan del Rio, Durango. So I estimate he was born about 1654.
The baptismal records there begin at 1679 and the matrimonies at 1695 so they are not much use.
Does anyone have any suggestions where else I might be able to look for information?

I've done several genealogy presentations--one for our local genealogy society and two for our local library. I enjoyed doing them but the best part was showing people HOW to do their own. I had a computer set up and a big screen, then I went to the Familysearch.org. After asking my audience a few preliminary questions, such as, "may I have a volunteer?" I asked that volunteer what state in Mexico his grandmother came from. It was funtastic to see people who REALLY knew very little about their families get a sparkle in their eyes when they saw that they CAN find their roots.
